i have a wonderfully huge selection of vintage valentine candy boxes and lots and lots of antique valentine post cards .. and dollies dressed in RED .. and olde books with RED covers that i used to fill my fireplace mantle with .. but .. alas and alack! they are all packed away somewhere in that schoolhouse and i don't know if i will get to them by February 14th .. if we get some good warm weather, i might go digging through the millions of boxes in there looking for them! does anyone do a 'valentine' tree? i have several girlfriends who leave up a 'tree' all year long and change the decorations with each season and holiday. how do you decorate your front door for this occasion? last weekend i bought a bunch of 'yard plant pot holders' .. today, i painted them valentine red .. will fill them with pots of RED flowers and put them all around! will make some red ticking pillow covers for the twig front porch rocking chairs and will set around little dollies dressed in reds with 'candy hearts' scattered about.

i'm sure i'll conjure up even more before 'love day' ... how do you gurlz decorate?

Frannie...what a fortunate person you are indeed to have Nicole and Dee come and teach you a class. I admire both of their works and follow what they do. I also love Wendy Addison's work. Many of the things I make are similar to these ladies, which would probably explain why I love what they so.
Can you tell me about the Fried Green Tomato guys and Sharon Andrews? I am unfamiliar with them.

Well, I am just getting started to decorate for Valentine's. I am on the hunt for valentines with a blue/green hue. Vintage of course!

I would love to add them to my 'garden theme'tree, I put together after chrismtas. This little tree will take me through summer without tooo much change.

pamela .. what treasures .. we wanna' see some pics! and i adore nicole .. she came to my house in maryland with her friend dee foust (Holly Berry Hill) .. to teach a dolly class. i sure miss their catalogue since they both went on to other grande adventures. nicole truly is one of the best dollmakers in the country! we had such a fun weekend .. shabby shopping and dolly-making with friends .. two of my most favorite passions. sharon andrews and the Fried Green Tomatoe guys came the same weekend! talk about creativity in the air!

I have my Valentines decor up. A heart wreath made of silk roses hangs on my hearth. I am not a big fan of silk flowers, but when I saw this (at a yard sale no less) last summer it was so striking I had to buy it. It looks beautiful. I too have some vintage Valentines, a heart box by Nicole Sayre (I love her stuff), and other goodies on my mantel. Hanging in my dining room is Happy Valentines Day sign made of red foil cardstock. I made some fancy cut letters spelling out LOVE and got them covered with antique silver glass glittered tonight. When they are dry in the morning I will hang them over my front window. This piece is so sparkly. I have a neat old candy box made with red satin. I actually embellished it years ago. But I am having trouble finding it...Hopefully I will soon, as it is so very pretty.
I bought some crepe paper garland at Target today. I will hang it on my mantel as well. It was so old fashioned looking I had to have it.
My mom gave me an old scrapbook of hers that is full of old Valentines, so that is out to look at.
