Sue- My husband proposed to me on Valentine's Day as well. Money is real tight right now so we will exchange handmade goodies. My friend has a chocolate business on the side and has a commercial kitchen in her home. I'm going to her house next Monday and we're going to make chocolates for our sweeties(the little sweeties too!) and I'm going to show her how to make my special chocolate mint foot balm. I love putting together gifts for people! Much more fun than receiving, I think! The smiles and hugs are the best gift!!

Blessings,

Missy

gals, there are lots of stuff you can do that doesnt' cost alot of money. Make and give " love" coupons, for a free back rub, breakfast in bed, you get the picture! Write him a poem from the heart, decorate it mail art style. Fix him his favorite dinner and give him the remote for the night. Put on your thinking cap and share some free ideas with us and go wild, it's the day for it!

Patti, I just spent yesterday like you described, a perfect Sunday, or anyday you can get out for a free drive in the country, hit the flea markets along the way and treat yourself to lunch in a small town cafe, it doesnt get better than that! Valentines day for me is the day my hubby asked me to marry him, he was suspose to do it at our favorite resturant, but he was so anxious he couldn't wait and popped the question in my kitchen as we were heading out the door! He's so cute! So after 14 years my wish is for him to bring home his signture single red rose, a card, some chocolate and himself, were empty nesters now!!! LOL

I'll be home in time for something special on valentine's day, so I think I will make a nice dinner, and be sure to remind my sweetie that it is a special evening and see what he comes up with. A nice bottle of good wine would be great, with dark organic chocolate. MMMM...have a good one everyone, jenny in MI

I've given this one alot of thought and here's what I want. Start out in the morning with a stop for some snacks and a couple of bottles of juice to put in the cooler. Then a day spent driving around the countryside in the area we are hoping to move to. Driving the back roads, stopping at flea markets or anything else that catches our eye. Stop for lunch at some little diner or something in one of the small towns in the area. Home in the afternoon. That evening, a quiet evening at home. Dinner? Hmmm . . . my favorite cheese dip and chips, other snacks. I know it's very un-holidayish, but I love the "regular" days the best!

My guys are 1 and 2 so thats a little young yet for some of your suggestions.. but you did get me thinking.. even though Hal can't be here this year, I'll still make some heart shaped cookies with pink frosting.. I also already picked up some Care bear valentine hearts at the dollar store so they can have the sugar high that valentines was made for, and I'll give my self a pedicure and paint their toenails too.. they really like that... besides Valentines isn't about being alone in the first place.. I'll save my alone day for something else.

My DH always gets me a dozen red roses, but told him this year he can just give me one and it's okay (trying to save for our vacation back east). A card that I know he has actually read and that has some meaning (he's thoughtful). And I wouldn't mind some Godiva truffles!!! Or even the truffles from Trader Joe's (they are soooo good), but we don't have a Trader Joe's in the Coeur d'Alene or Spokane area yet. We'll go out to dinner on the weekend.

well honey-doo .. if he is gone during valentine's day .. you can still go window-shopping and invite a friend over for that facial (you could give each other facials) .. or DO IT YOURSELF! just take the time and indulge! how old are the kidlings? perhaps you could find a 'project' for them to work on while you are doing the facial thingie .. and wait until they are all tucked in bed to indulge in a decadent bath ritual! At the times in my life when i just had pennies and had to stretch them .. i would find a good friend to swap baby-sitting with .. this worked out great! and make yourself your most favorite meal on february 14th .. you might want to include those other 'loves' in your life on this special day ... plan the whole day around you and the children .. YEP! i know that isn't giving you your 'alone' day .. but save that one for another day ... maybe take the kids to the dollar store and have them 'swap' names and buy a secret surprize and have it wrapped up to be revealed at a late 'picnic dinner' on the floor somewhere in your house (do you have a fireplace?) ... or they can MAKE a gift for each other! even peanut butter and RED (strawberry) jam sammies cut with a heart-shaped cookie cutter .. and some heart-shaped cookies and chips and soda would be a special valentine's dinner ... spread silk 'rose petals' around the picnic area ... find a RED blanket to sit on. everyone share stories of a special 'love' or time in their life.

i swear, some of my happiest memories are of the girls and me (between my two honey hunk husbands) .. when we often would have to search in jacket pockets and in drawers for pennies to treat ourselves to (YES .. i'm going to say it!) McDonald's hamburgers!
there are always games to be played and little 'hand-did' prizes .. that don't cost a thing. (they can all make valentines for each other .. and write something special they love about each other in it .. and of course, you will want to save these forever!)

well, sweetie pie .. i'm just hoping that you will have a most marvelous valentine's day .. none of us should let this special pass unnoticed for all the years of our life.

here's valentine hugs and kisses coming your way! xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

We'll have to hold off for a while. My mom is our babysitter and she's snowbirding for the next 6 weeks, and besides, Hal's in Montana scouting jobs with an undetermined shecdule of when he is coming back here and going back there.. plus we are broke.... No big thing though.. I may present him with my wish list when our anniversary rolls around because by then he will have been employed for a while and we might have some of our savings back..

I'm not resentful or grumpy about it or anything. I was just having an indulgent mind moment last night :)

bobbi .. your wish list sounds very 'do-able' to me ... just give this list to your handsome husband .. and tell him this is what you really, really want for valentine's day. you may have to make the appointment for the massage and facial ... then do that bookstore and huckleberries shopping .. and let hom make a reservation for dinner .. then go home .. go into the bathroom (with yummy smelling candle and frothy bath salts and your favorite book and cuppa' tea in hand)and LOCK the door.

i just bet'cha you can do this ..

oh .. and end the evening in bed with that handsome husband his card to you (and yours to him and a 'good smooch'!

keep us informed as you make these appointments and reservations ... we wanna' hear that your valentine dream came true! xo

p.s. if there are little children that have to be cared for .. hit up a relative or friend .. promise to return the favor for them.

Hmm.. I would like a day.. just a day thats mine all mine. I would sleep in, get up and go get a massage, followed by a facial, followed by a trip to the bookstore, followed by an afternoon in huckleberries shopping for exotic teas and bath goodies, followed by meeting with a certain handsome husband for dinner, followed by an evening at home including a bath for as long as I want, my book and a cup of tea..

*poof* sorry! I'm awake now!

Just a card and a good smooch would be nice.

:)
