Posted - Apr 03 2009 : 3:59:49 PM I remember when I ordered three pair through the Ward catolog when I lived at home. Grandpa looked over the order before he wrote the check to mail it. He said Nancy Jo are you sure you need these you have a whole closet full of shoes. Funny Gramps!

Posted - Apr 13 2009 : 5:38:07 PM Petti Pants would have been great for me on Easter Sunday. I wore a new thin skirt that kept me too cool. I like knee hose instead of pantyhose because of the older woman's hot flashes...too sweaty... But my church is up on a hill...windy and cold. I could sew some!

Posted - Apr 13 2009 : 4:36:07 PM I loved my petti pants. They were "nude" color, the first undies that were flesh color instead of white. I wore them with - get this - the first panty hose and a girdle! I did not want anything to jiggle!!!

Posted - Apr 13 2009 : 1:24:50 PM You are so funny! Saddle shoes were so comfortable to me. Then when I was old enough to wear heels out went the comfort!
Then the garter belt and metal garter clips holding up stockings...stylish but sometimes painful. I remember when pantyhose was invented...LOL
Then a few years later the National news announced that a new word was added to Webster's Dictionary. The word was pantyhose!
Yes, all styles come back around eventually. I am waiting for the 70s Granny dresses..I loved them.

Posted - Apr 13 2009 : 12:55:40 PM OH! It's all coming back to me now! thanks for the memories! I was a teen in the 60's and remember petti pants and pedal pushers and the saddle shoes when I was younger were so big and clunky I would accidently kick my ankles with them and make my ankles bleed! I had HUGE feet and could not control them! LOL!!!!!

Posted - Apr 13 2009 : 09:27:32 AM I well remember peddle pushers. I had one set that was white pants and a bold red print top that I loved...When capries came out I told my daughter (age 40 and 29) that they used to be called peddle pushers and they rolled thier eyes and said"Back in the day".
I heard once that nothing was really new---that somewhere in history we could find the object by a different name. "hot pants, pencil or pegged legs pants, have all been around. I wonder how much money the desingers have made off the same products with a new name? |

Posted - Apr 13 2009 : 04:42:01 AM I grew up in the 70's/80's and I wore petal pushers. My mother made them for me and that's what she called them. Maybe it said capri pants on the pattern. I liked them a lot, but of course, I was in elementary school and didn't care whether I dressed like everyone else or not.
My mom is famous for saying, "That's the style, honey!" And we kids would look at her askance, sigh and say, "Oh, Mom!" It really did exasperate us. How was she supposed to know what teenagers were wearing? The only way to know what was in was to walk down the halls at school and SHE never did that! Ha! Now the I have teenagers I don't even pretend to know what is cool or not. They've got to figure it out for themselves!

Yea, you got it. A slip that was knee length pants. I really liked them too. Petti pants wouldn't be hard to make. I've often thought, well at least in the winter time, of making a flannel pair but then, I rarely wear a skirt in the winter.

Posted - Apr 12 2009 : 4:00:12 PM I wore pedal pushers as a child...the 50s. They were well fitted like Marilyn Monroe would wear. They had a little slit on the sides and were very cute. Clam Diggers now are wide leg...straight down and I think named after the pants people wore to get clams. They are like straight leg pants would look rolled up above the water. I like mine these days and wear them instead of shorts...baggy is cooler. I wore Saddle Shoes too! They were comfy and looked like men's shoes two toned. White and brown. We wore Bobby Socks with the Saddle Shoes. (remember them??)I liked them. Girls wore them to dance the jitterbug with full skirts...remember that? I was a teenager in the 60s and feel very lucky to watch so much history and changes in our country. That was back when our Presidents were respected. Rock and Roll began...yippee!!! The Beatles came to USA and on and on... :-D

Posted - Apr 10 2009 : 3:10:45 PM Oh this is just too funny a topic!
My mom wouldn't let me wear a girdle so I had to put up with a garter belt! My older sister wore cancans but when I was a teen, we wore slips or petti pants. I too remember wearing saddle shoes when I was younger but I especially remember a pair of red and black ankle boots I got for my 16th birthday. I loved those shoes! To this day, that is my favorite style. lol
Sissy ties - they were made from eyelet with ribbon running through the eyelet. I think the colored ribbon could be changed depending the color of the outfit. One end was hemmed and the other end was folded over elastic and the elastic would go under the collar of the shirt so that the eyelet tie would hang like a man's tie down the front of the shirt. Did anyone call them something else?
Did I butcher that explanation? Geeze that was hard. lol

Posted - Apr 10 2009 : 1:38:50 PM We have had something called "high water" or "flood" pants here, also. Don't like that term because as a kid I was so tall and long-legged that everyone made fun of my pants being too short. It was always "what, are you waiting for a flood?".

Posted - Apr 10 2009 : 12:17:48 PM This is great topic, Nancy. So fun to remember the pedal pusher pants. Along with the topic of pedal pushers --- a lot of us here probably remember the layering of so many clothes. Bra, panties, girdle with garters, hose, pettipants, camisole, full or half slip and what used to be called a "can-can" for the full skirts. Add to that the blouse or sweater set, skirt and belt, it was a wonder we could move. And --- with just about anything goes for clothing now, it is hard to believe we would never wear a white blouse without a camisole or slip underneath --- as our "undies" may show.

Posted - Apr 10 2009 : 09:46:01 AM Carol are you meaning "saddle shoes"? I remember knee socks and saddle shoes, but don't recall sissy ties.
I have several pairs of "peddle-pushers" and like the name better than crop pants too.

Posted - Apr 10 2009 : 09:35:50 AM I can remember the first time someone wore "crop' pants, I told my girls, "I use to wear petal pushers" I got really strange expressions from them. Heck, I think petal pushers is a much cuter name then crop pants. I'd like to know what sissy ties are too.

Posted - Apr 06 2009 : 10:20:08 PM Oh my gosh Yes, I remember peddle pushers. My mom made my 3 sisters & I all matching ones with coordinating blouses, before we went on vacation to Disneyland! Petti pants Oh yes & hot pants and pegged pants. Carol I even had those pointy shoes that were helpful to squeeze my fat leg into them. What about cardigan button sweaters worn backwards with silky scarves arounf your neck, and colored scarves tied to your purses?

Posted - Apr 06 2009 : 7:49:11 PM Soooo funny...yes, I remember them well...anyone remember "hot pants" ? LOL And I had to laugh when the "skinny leg" pants came out not too long ago.....they reminded me of the "pegged" pants (where we sewed the pant legs so narrow you had to point your toe and squish your feet through...back in my teen years, the 60's!)
Thanks for the trip down Memory Lane! Oh, how about "petti pants"???? Anyone?

Posted - Apr 06 2009 : 1:48:42 PM We called them peddle pushers here in Oklahoma, too. And I believe they were called that because of not getting caught in the bicycle sprocket. I remember getting jeans and other pants caught and that could be quite dangerous. (By the way, I am over 50 and was a teenager in the '60s).

That's right Kay, I remember now, just above the ankles. Wasn't peddle pushers called that because gals could wear them easier when riding a bike; no skirt or baggy pants to get caught in the gears?
