Posted - Mar 31 2009 : 07:21:06 AM My sis called me about a special that was on 60 min or Dateline, not sure which one. It was about a group of teenagers in Russia that have a worm that has infected a large portion of computers across the world, accessing passwords, cc #'s(like the ones on file at Amazon)etc. I did not see, so do not have all the details, but apparently have the ability to pull all this info at once & use, causing some major cyberterror. I don't like to spread gloom & doom, but they mentioned that newer versions of Norton will do the best job of protection, that Norton updates every 5 minutes(maybe they were a sponsor of the show) This is not an urban myth. Our local radio programs are talking about it too. I just don't get if they know who is doing it, why they can't stop them. Just an FYI to the all the sisters! |

Posted - Apr 01 2009 : 7:01:14 PM I also updated, our news team out of Louisville KY had 3 different sites to click on and if it loads ok then do your updates but if it doesnt then your probably infected it said. If anyone wants to go there it's www.whas11.com. Should be on the bottom of the page where you click to go to help. Hmmm just rechecked and you may have to search the page for the worm info.

Posted - Mar 31 2009 : 5:46:41 PM Please go to control panel, open add and remove programs, and look for a Microsoft update labeled KB958644 or MS08-067. These are the updates that protect against the "April Fools" or "conficker" virus/worm. If you don't have these particular updates, don't panic, make sure you can access update.microsoft.com and download the latest update for YOUR operating system.

Posted - Mar 31 2009 : 5:23:29 PM Have been reading about this. If you can go to Symantec.com & browse, you should be OK... Hubby cannot.. We are trying to nip this in the bud, but right now he cannot even get the email I sent him with the fix. He is ready to go postal. |

Posted - Mar 31 2009 : 2:38:44 PM I heard from Fox News that anyone who has Windows should run their Virus scans today. The conficker worm is suppose to be "turned on" tomorrow by the idiots! I ran mine today and my virus ware said I had three objects infected. Not sure what it was. Now everything is okay.

Posted - Mar 31 2009 : 12:09:43 PM I have Norton protection and couldn't figger out why I would get this msg that someone else was on my computer. So I installed AVG, the free version, and it's running right now. So far it has found about 30+ tracking cookies, bad software and two major threats that Norton has missed. I only have 60 days left for Norton so I'm uninstalling it and going with the AVG. I think that will fix my problems. The above mentioned bad software is actually someone who is spying on me. I had FB for a while and that is when most of my problems started. I deleted my account about a week ago and still cleaning up.
The new threat is the conficker worm, set to 'detonate' on April 1. Make sure your virus, spyware is up to date!

Posted - Mar 31 2009 : 11:29:56 AM The latest on the news report is the one for tomorrow. Make sure your computer has uploaded the latest version (march) of Microsoft office (if you have an IBM). The worm is supposed to suppress upgrades that might catch it. yes and check your Norton updates to be sure you have the latest. The thought is the worm will try to get you to buy things, so as usual don't open anything you don't know.

Posted - Mar 31 2009 : 11:29:37 AM I heard something about this a couple of weeks ago. There was an article on the yahoo homepage. If I'm thinking of the right worm, the offenders use social networking sites to say plant the lil devil. Sites like Facebook and Myspace. The offenders send a message that appears to come from one of your friends and in the message there's a link to a video or picture and the message says something to the effect, "You have to check this out!" When you click the link the worm is downloaded to your pc without you knowing it and all your information is stolen.
Be careful!
Melanie
