I had an great big "AHHHHHHHHAAAAAAA" moment today....

Why is it that I can pack up for a 3 week road trip, with a baby, a dog and my hubby and live out of a duffle bag without a problem but when I come home, I can't seem to function without ALL this stuff? On the road, there is ALWAYS a Wally World, Target or corner drugstore to get something IF we truly needed it (I think we went into a WW to get snacks..once...) So what is it that at home I can't seem to have that same freedom? Is it because this is where people know me? That I have more space? More choice? I shut down the vacation living because it goes against the grain of what others might think? NO MORE SISTERS!!!! This gal is going on vacation everyday.

I will no longer separate the 2 lives. I am going to start truly living. I cleaned out the house (minus furniture and my personal items, like pic. frames, dishes, work clothing...you get the idea) and I set aside what I would take in terms of a vacation on the bed- clothing, shoes, make up, personal care products...and I donated the rest!!! YEE HAW!!! SO freeing!!! I am going to get a diet Root Beer and swing in my hammock!!!

I think the fly lady said to take and put 21 things in a bag and toss it then put 21 more things in a bag and donate it. I'm with you I have a hard time getting rid of things. My sons used to say mom you have too many angels. I told them one can never have enough angels and when I die I want them to give an angel to everyone who comes to say their final good-by to me. Dust and all. But I do have an a abundance of bowls. I just love bowls and tables and cookbooks ect. Then Nancy said to me one day I tell my family its not my problem, your the ones who will have to get rid of it when I die, and her home is never cluttered its very cute, warm and smells great. I am getting a little better with giving things away as my nephew and his wife love nice things and need every thing so I am better at getting a box together to give it to them. I just love all my stuff. Who knows you may make another quilt. and I may make one some day to. Yes I even have material just incase I decide I want to make one.

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.

Diane, I have tried that. I think it was flylady that said "get rid on one thing everyday". I go through my house and try to find something to get rid of. Throw away, give away, put in garage sale pile. It is hard to do. I have enough fabric to make at least 6 quilts and have not made a quilt for 15 years. BUT, I might. Have more dishes that I ever use at one time. That is something I am working on. Funny when I have a crowd, we are usually cooking "out" and use paper plates. We have a motorhome and I have everything I need to cook, do crafts, you name it, in that little space. But here in the house, I just have more of everything.

I am not quite to that point yet, Heather- but we did manage to move my whole household in 2 days and only a handful of boxes!

I must admit I do like my books and craft items. I have a couple good books, some craft books and magazines and a few supplies but over all it is clothes that we have managed to get a lot of. Some are stained and worm out, so I am sorting through them as I do the laundry and fold. Some need to be packed away for cold weather, and some are ready to be worn with summer coming on!

For lent I decided to put one object a day in a box and at the end of lent I should have 46 items to donate. It isn't that easy. But I like the look of an uncluttered home. It's a start at least.

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.

Heather,
You go girl!!!
I am trying to do something similar today.
Have piles to donate, take to consignment shop, give to my kids and just throw out.
You are right, it is very freeing.
Enough STUFF. Enjoy the living and not the getting.

Heather, that's awesome and must take a lot of inner strength to say goodbye to all of that! I've often asked myself the same question and would love to pare down.
