Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common
Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for
sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago
lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as
having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
Knowing when to come in out of the rain; Why the early bird
gets the worm; Life isn't always fair; and maybe it was
my fault.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies
(don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable
strategies (adults, not children, are in charge)..
His health began to deteriorate rapidly when
well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in
place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual
harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from
school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired
for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his
condition.
Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for
doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in
disciplining their unruly children.
It declined even further when schools were required to get
parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a
student; but could not inform parents when a student became
pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. Common Sense lost
the will to live as the churches became businesses; and
criminals received better treatment than their victims.
Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend
yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar
could sue you for assault.
Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a
woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was
hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly
awarded a huge settlement.
Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth
and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter,
Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.
He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers:
I Know My Rights
I Want It Now
Someone Else Is To Blame
I'm A Victim
Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he
was gone.
I don't know who originally wrote this, but it sure captures the way I feel about things....How is your common sense?

Debbie..exactly my point...it's HER screw up and Her problem so why blame someone else.....unless she smelled money somewhere! She's basically saying..Hey, I'm totally ignorant and don't know what hot means! LOL But THAT'S the kind of people who seem to get something for ACTING dumb.
So we all might get the picture eventually that ...STUPID (well, ACTING stupid )gets you ahead? Barf.. Whatever happened to being responsible for what we do and getting ahead because we chose to work for what we have, or may be able to have down the line?? How about PRIDE in our accomplishments...how much pride can you have in getting money from suing someone?????????

I mourn common sense too. Our country is already in a world of hurt but personal responsibility has gone by the wayside. For the first time in my life, I'm getting afraid of our government and of people.

Then why didn't she smack herself in the forehead and say, "Am I a dufus or what?" instead of bringing a lawsuit? I mean if the clouds of steam coming from the sides of the cup weren't enough warning.....

Debbie! I am saddened because PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY passed away about the same time.
And that McDonald's case......Who knows and who am I to judge? Maybe she had Fido jumping around in her lap and her cell phone glued to her ear while screaming at her 9 kiddies in the back....and her car in the wrong gear.....poor dear. LOL and LOL some more!

I am continually amazed by how people act these days. Gives me a headache the size of Texas. And Don't let my DH get on a roll about what he sees out on the Interstates every day.
When I get my printer hooked up later today, I'm printing this out.

I'd post it but I don't want people to take offense, it's semi true and had good points....Next time I vote I'll claim farmgirl instead of a party :-p

My own personal feeling is this-- Society as a whole has become too complacent. We have forgotten what it took to MAKE America a "FREE" country. It was by Faith in God, blood, sweat, tears and HARD WORK of many that made this Nation what it once was. Too many people in today's society look to OTHERS to fix THEIR problems. They also believe it's their right-- as AMERICANS-- to let "Big Brother" take care of them (with taxpayers money). The problem with that is, nothing is ever FREE in this world, it never HAS been. SOMEONE has ALWAYS paid the price. It started with the Pilgrims arrival on the East Coast sand and is continuing with our Soldiers fighting in Iraq.
The people of this country have become so selfish, and so involved in everyone ELSE'S business, that our children are suffering for it. The kids only reflect what society (and probably their PARENTS) have taught them. Kids are going to learn one way or the other, whether they are taught those things DIRECTLY, or INDIRECTLY. I have always felt, as a parent, that it was MY responsibility to teach MY children the "Golden Rules," because if I didn't do it, no one else would. I also feel that, as an adult, it is MY responsibilty to set an example and live by those rules MYSELF. Children are like "Mirrors," a reflection of the people they look up to, for only a little while. It's the lessons that they learn while they are young that they carry over into their adult lives. It's up to US to set the examples. Even if their "Own" grown-ups won't.

The sad part is it is true. When talking to Gramma Rose I told her it was against the law to pray in school, but they were going to allow a moment of silence so if you wanted to say a prayer you could as long as no one else was bothered.

lol...if that woman had been a farmgirl, she'd be wearing jeans and the coffee wouldn't have phased her....and she would have had enough sense to put the cup in her truck's cupholder before taking off from the drive through window.....although, come to think of it, she wouldn't have stopped at a drive through anyway...she'd have her own monogrammed thermos full of latte' already with her!...ROTFL!!!!

Funny, but sadly true.
It bothers me, though, that so many people revile the victim in that McDonald's coffee lawsuit. Sure, we all know that coffee is hot and we take the risk of some mess and discomfort if we drink it while driving. But this lady got third degree burns and needed a skin graft! No restaurant has any business serving coffee that hot, especially through a drive-up window.
