Hubby & I had to go into Spokane today and managed to get sidetracked at one of our favorite Antique shops....well we found the cutest old mid-1940's vacuum that works great and "SCORE!" a 1956/57 Singer 301 sewing machine in Fab condition for $50!....sneak over to my blog for a minute for a peek....My first sewing project on it will be an apron that I am working on for a Apron Swap that I am in....

Toni
the case is so easy to do....it's just simple decopage'....but with this one, I tore the paper into 3-4" size pieces which made it easier applying it around the curves. Afterwards I sprayed several coats of sealer/gloss and then added ribbons & rhinestones etc. Not bad for a Thrift shop find for just a few dollars.
I think it is in this issue of MaryJanesFarm magazine that is now arriving in our mailboxes, haven't got my magazine yet but got an email from a friend that it is in there. It was fun to do. So just go have fun.

Grace, you lucky duck, I love the sew machine, but when I went to your blog I also noticed the
suitcases you did over. I wish I lived closer so you could teach me how to do that. I have a few suitcases that I want to do that to but am afraid I will mess them up. Yours are just beautiful. Toni

Beautiful sewing machine, Grace. And I love that vacuum. I've never seen anything quite like it! Do put on a June Cleaver dress and get your dh to take a pic so we can see you use it! :)

I think, but am not sure,,,so I guess that would mean I am 'guessing' lol! that maybe the Singer 301 is a newer mid-1950's version of the older style featherweights....
Unlike the old Singers that weighed a ton and a half, this machine, while still heavy is lighter & portable with a handle on top. My other machines are cast iron while I believe this one is cast aluminum. But is is quiet and sews smoothly. I plan to "play" with it today....now that my house is tidy, the laundry-all 5 loads- is done and it finally quit snowing...the sun is actually poking it's head out! yea!!!!!
