Well, Fiddles!!! another magazine has bit the dust... I was over in Facebook (when I should be working!)and read EllynAnne's post that Hallmark Magazine has pulled the plug! yep the April issue and all others are no longer. Bummer! I like this magazine and was looking forward to the April issue because it was going to be about aprons.
Looks like the downswing of the economy has put hard times on the advertisements in magazine which are what keep magazines afloat.
I find myself very leary now about subscribing to or re-newing a subscription...except to my MJF & Victoria magazines ofcourse!.
I think I recall someone saying that Country Cottages? Homes? ceased publication recently. Soon our only options will be the mega - zines that are 2/3 add filled.(ie: BH&G, Real Simple etc...).
Maybe I am going about this the wrong way,,,maybe if their subscriptions were up these wonderful magazines would not cease publication...but I too have to tighten my purse strings so I have to be a little more frugal with how/where/what I spend my money on.
It's a vicious cycle....

I went to http://www.nymag.com
It stated that as of 2/24 Hallmark magazine folds along with its website so the company can focus it'sresources on other steadily profitable interests....
I did see listings for magazine subscriptions which makes this all so confusing...
When I was in Lowes the other day, I saw both the March & April issues of Country Homes magazine..so I guess that even thou the magzines have folded, it just takes a mopnth or so to get every thing caught up and processed....

You know I work for Hallmark and I have not yet heard this tidbit of information. When was the email received on it? Anyone know?

YEP!!! Lost my Mary Englebreit and Country Home magazine....bummer is right! How has Ladies Home Journal stayed out there so long and the others which are far better (in my humble opinion! LOL!) are biting the dust? I just subscribed to Hobby Farm and Hobby Home and Mother Earth....I hope they don't send me a "substitute" for those!

Julie,
I got my info from a very reliable source who had an article that was scheduled to go to print when she received word that the Magazine was going out of circulation....
I will go on the internet & google it to see if I can find anything else...

How weird! Two weeks ago I got a circular in the mail offering me a free issue of Hallmark Magazine. I sent in the card, and yesterday, I got a bill for a subscription. Am I not reading something right? The bill says 'Hallmark Magazine! I don't want to send them any money if it's going out of business!!!!!

So sad! I love my Hallmark magazine. And Mary Englebreit ceased publication, too?? :(

If you don't want the replacement magazine, you should contact the publisher and get a refund. That's an option offered for M. Engelbreit magazine subscribers, and probably others as well.

Sad to see such magazines disappear.

I'm there with all of you. I hate that Mary Engelbreit Magazine, replaced with Martha Stewart, (I don't like it!) AND Country Home, replaced with Better Homes & Garden (it's ok but...) stopped publication. I too wish I could have chosen the replacement magazines.

uugghhh! don't you hate it when the really good magazines stop production and especially on such short notice?
Victoria Magazine, after almost 15 years ceased production and then it started back up last year,,,so who knows,,, maybe just maybe Country Homes & Hallmark will resurface in a year or two. We can only hope.

I didn't have a subscription, but I sure did like this magazine off the shelf when I couldn't think of anything else to get--bummer!

Incidentally, I got my "March-oh-by-the-way-this-is-your-last-issue" of Country Home magazine yesterday....I haven't cracked it yet, I guess I'm a little sore!!!
katmom Posted - Feb 25 2009 : 3:41:14 PM
That's the one thing I hate,,,,the publishing company "picks out" the magazine it will send you as the replacement of the now defunkt one.
The pickins is gettin' slim.....
Hurrumpf! I may have to start watching T.V. again! NOT!

WOnderful I just subscribed and got my first issue a few months ago and really liked it. I wonder if we will get a refund or they will just choose another magazine for us that I don't want. Grrr

Yep, just got an e-mail from Hallmark saying they were ceasing publication. DRATS! Seems like the good magazines all seem to get flushed.
My Cottage Living magazine is being replaced with Southern Living; at least they have a new, female, editor and I like the new look. The old Southern Living was more than a bit stale.

I agree with you Grace I hate to renew or get any subscriptions for that reason. I heard that it doesn't matter on how many people subscribe. One magazine had a 600,000 people subscribing and it folded because it needed those ads and people weren't purchasing them. JoAnn

Well, bummer. My dh had a ton of skymiles to get rid of and he put that magazine down as a choice to use up his miles. I had gotten one issue and really liked it. I got my last issue of Country Home yesterday. They're replacing it with Ladies Home Journal. I don't like Ladies Home Journal!
