Posted - Feb 14 2009 : 10:39:07 PM Today was our annual chili cook off which is always a good time with lots of good chili and fun raffle prizes and socializing. I so love chili and look forward to this event every year. There is also a flea market at the same time every year at our community hall. I found a great shoulder bag and blue suede hiking boots that I just love! And I picked up a whole bunch of baby/toddler jeans for the butts so I can make some more mother/daughter apron sets.
Then one of my best buds and I decided to treat ourselves to a nice dinner tonight rather than just sit at home (she's going through divorce, too). We went to one of our local restaurants (the owner is her cousin) that was putting on a special 6 course meal menu just for Valentine's day.
She had all the tables covered in dark red table cloths with flowers and cloth napkins and she offered Lasagna or rib eye or prime rib or salmon; all with various sides. First the warm bread served with honey butter. Then the appetizers were fried green beans and shrimp cocktail. Then cheesy vegetable soup (extremely heavenly) and then the salad. My friend ordered the rib eye smothered in mushroom gravy and I ordered the honey-ginger crusted salmon baked on a cedar shingle. Oh, man it was so good. And it was sooooo much food; Trudy (the owner) does not skimp on portions. We actually ate most of it. We did end up putting some of our main entree into boxes to go. It took us about 2 1/2 hours, but it was so nice to spoil ourselves like this and not be in a hurry to get home or anything. For dessert, I had cheesecake and she had the lemon cake with whipped cream. Ok, that we could NOT finish. All that and we each got a small bouqet before we left, too.
Then, because we really needed to walk off some of that food, we walked across the street to another restaurant that had a bar. It was only 17 degrees; how far did you expect us to go?! haha We each ordered one drink that the bar tender made so strong, that neither of us could finish it and we each had to ask for a glass of water and sit and joke around and tell stories and laugh for another good hour before we could even leave! And that was after I had the bartender pour my drink into a bigger glass and add more coke to it! So, then the bartender gave us each a small box of chocolates before we left.
We had so much fun today. It felt really good to be so indulgent and pamper ourselves like this. We laughed and giggled over stupid stuff (mostly at our stb ex's expense!) and just had a great time. I highly recommend this kind of self indulgence!
