Posted - Feb 10 2009 : 10:08:13 AM Ok, I made Tofu Sandwich Spread for a gathering and decided that not everyone likes Tofu, so I made a delicious Ham Salad Spread using Bologna (insert frugality here). Anyway, as I was whizzing up the Bologna in my Cuisanart, I discovered that Bologna is really... REDNECT TOFU!!!! I thought I was gonna pee, lauging so hard....

Posted - Feb 11 2009 : 10:21:14 AM During my poor, lean years as a kid, my favorite lunch was fried SPAM on white bread slathered with mayo and a slice of dill pickle on the sandwich. Probably not very healthy, but I was a kid and it tasted much better than the creamed cauliflower we sometimes ate for lunch. As I said, we were POOR. I still eat it, though not very often.

Posted - Feb 11 2009 : 09:44:43 AM Debbie, that is too funny! I can just picture it.
I have never eaten Spam in my life, but I understand it was a staple for hubby in his bachelorhood. I usually put the kabosh on bologna at our house too, but maybe once a year, succumb to barbecue bologna. We get a 1/2" slab from the deli, roll it and secure with two picks, glaze with BBQ sauce, and put it on the grill. Why is this better than its nearly identical cousin, the hot dog? I have no idea... :D

Posted - Feb 11 2009 : 09:09:26 AM Well girls, buy SPAM stock now, cuz with the economy the way it is, they are having record sales of the stuff! I gotta admit when I was first out on my own, I bought my first can of SPAM and cut criss-crosses in it and put cloves in the squares and covered it with honey mustard sauce and baked it.....I was SO PROUD of my SPAM HAM!

Posted - Feb 10 2009 : 8:04:28 PM OH, Grace, I gotta hear this!!! Don't make us wait too long for that story.
I think balogna is disgusting and ranks right up there with spam, hotdogs, vienna sausage and potted meat. I've wondered if they even qualify as "meat" by definition? I grew up on them too and wouldn't touch any of them now. I'd sooner go meatless! I've never had tofu. But, then, I don't even know what it is other than a white blob in a clear plastic container. LOL

Posted - Feb 10 2009 : 3:46:16 PM My hubby would LOVE that! He must be a total redneck. That's the first thing I learned to cook for him, fried burnt bologna. He wanted it burnt.
