Is this child's tea set ca. 1914 by Royal Rudolstadt of Germany. This was my Christmas present this year. I have a set just like it, but with characters called 'Happifats' on it. These guys are called 'Golliwogs'. I had missed seeing it in the glass case for weeks(my dh always came in the door close to that side and he was supposed to check out that case Later, he said something like "That ugly thing?"

It's a complete set - six of everything, plus the creamer, sugar and teapot.

Hi, Wilma! I'm looking forward to Burlington, too! Got info from Tony Pham in the mail a while back. ;)

And I have to say that this doesn't happen often here, either. Usually, when a thrift gets anything halfway decent, they look it up in a book or print off an ebay listing(they never print what it sells for, just what it's listed for.....)and the price is 'high as a cat's back', as my granny used to say. The price on my tea set was low for something so old for them, but high enough that my dh bought it for me for Christmas.

About 35 years ago, when I bought my other Rudolstadt set, there were three plates in the bottom of the box that were the Golliwog pattern. I've always wondered what the entire set looked like, but I've never found another piece until now. Took a long time! :D And my dh didn't ever remember seeing the three plates in the bottom of our china cabinet! LOL!

Wow, those are wonderful, have not been to SVA in years but you would not find that here. You might want to go and check out my free giveaway on my blog where you are asked what was your favorite find in a thrift store. It is fun to see what everyone has to say.

Find your joy and live it. http://cheneybaglady.blogspot.com/http://www.kpaints.etsy.com

I don't know where they got the name. And they're so oddly not 1914. So weird and futuristic looking. The Happifats characters were a cartoon thing. They also made a Kewpie set(have to take out a loan for that one, if I ever found one.)

And good for you, Katie-ell! I'm glad you kept one for yourself!

That is too fabulous. And I like that they're called Golliwogs. Only the Germans!

Awesome too, that it's a complete set. I told you, your thrifts are awesome...ours, not so much :)

Whaa? He neglected to tell you about these? OMG I love them! Our Sal Army doesn't have anything like this . . . and it certainly would not have remained for weeks. Hours, perhaps! I just love shopping at the SA, though. My most recent best find were three Nicholas Mosse hand-painted pitchers from Ireland. Sold 2 on ebay and kept one for me. Tada!
