Well, we lost our electric at 2:45 am on Wednesday morning after our ice covered pine trees bent down and took out the transformer near our garden. The electric came back on yesterday at 2:00 pm. It was a rough few days, but it sure had a way of humbling a girl....Our Airedale dog had 10 puppies last Saturday night and she took care of all of them without the heat lamp. It got down to zero one night. She is turning out to be a great mother.(Insert sigh of relief here..)
We heat with wood and have propane to cook with. We had lots of candles already in our stash and are on city water with a propane on demand hot water heater so we were fine. I put the food from our refrigerators freezer in coolers outside and the fridge stuff in a snowbank. Covered the big chest freezer with a pile of quilts. We could have used more batteries and a battery operated radio though....but I'm glad it's over. Now I have 8 loads of laundry to do today...ugh! A woman's work is never done......Last night when I went to bed, I couldn't get to sleep because of all the noise! Hubby was watching tv, teenage son was on the computer, space heater was running in the bathroom and the refrigerator in the kitchen was running so loud I could hear it through my pillow! But I finally fell asleep and woke up this morning to the sun shining on all that ice in the trees...HOW BEAUTIFUL!
Last Sunday, a few of us Flora Farmgirls went to Point Pleasant, West Virginia to the Goodwill. Then we went to the Golden Corral for dinner. I got 3 tiered skirts and two tops, a beautiful gold leaf china dinner plate and a set of sunflower salt & pepper shakers. We're going to meet again next Sunday at my house for a mending party. (Mending not required...lol) Everyone is bringing as many brownies as they can, so we can get a box together to send to a friend of my son's who is in Iraq and begging for brownies for his unit. Sorry to drone on and on, but I haven't talked to anyone except hubby and son for four days....I need a farmgirl fix!Stay warm...Spring is on it's way!Happy Groundhog Day on Monday!

Actually...it's OWW lady...that stands for Old World Wisconsin. It's an outdoor living history museum of immigrant life in the 1800's. I was a lady of the 1870's. But you're not the first to call me Owl Lady, so that's ok!! lol

I asked my 16 year old son during this blackout if he thought it was a good idea for us to just become Amish...his reply was "Am-not-ish"....gotta love it that he kept his good humor...lol

Back to work tomorrow at 9:00 am....

Welcome back to the industrialized world! ;) Sometimes I wish the power would go out here just so DH wouldn't have his computer!

I've often wondered how one "camped" out when the lights went out. Now I know. Good thing that there was enough cold outside to keep the food fresh. Happy to hear your Airedale turned out to be a good mommy. Being innovative is the Code for being a farmgirl.

Glad your electricity is back on.

Debbie, so glad your electric is back on. You were in pretty good shape all things considered. Better off then most, I'm sure.
I enjoyed reading your post. It is funny how much "white noise" we get used to and don't even realize it.
I am also looking forward to spring. Did you get any pictures of the ice covered trees with the sun shining through? I'd love to see them, I think that is so beautiful also!

Welcome back.

Wow...I'm tired just from reading that! Glad to see your electricity is back on. Amazing how quiet it can be without it though. 10 puppies?? Is that an unusually large litter? Well, she's sure got her paws full...
