How are all the KY Farmgirls out there? I know that all of my friends and relatives in Western Kentucky have been hit hard by the ice storm. They have all been told power may be restored by mid-February, but it could be longer. There are places where there is no water available or gas. According to one relative he stated that he had not seen this much destruction since Vietnam.
We've been without power since Tuesday night. Hubby was able to purchase a generate to run the whole house so we have heat, water and lights. Our cable, internet and phone service was reconnected this morning. The lineman for our electric company was out checking Thursday and he told my husband it would be next week sometime before our power is restored due to all of the trees that came down. According to reports this morning approx. 49,000 are out of power here in Evansville.
We need to go to the farm and check the damage there but reports are not looking good. I know a tree took out the garage and our farm truck. There is also a tree on the house, but no report of how serious the damage is to the house. At least no one was hurt when the trees came down.
Sending warm hugs and prayers to all of the farmgirls affected by the ice storm.

I am so glad the bedroom suite was't ruined, but oh my goodness there is a lot for you to do. There are so many more that need restored and the looting really stinks!!!!!! People are already tramatized by it all, they sure do not need more challenges to say the least. Thinking of you girls.....

I'm so sorry about the tree, Donna. But glad it didn't damage your grandmother's bedroom suite. It warmed up here, too. Big ice chunks are falling from everywhere. Evansville was mentioned on the national news tonight. They mentioned the National Guard. The fact that looting has started makes me very sad. It seems like a time of crisis brings out the best in so many people and the worst in a few bad apples. It's a shame.

Janice how are things in Louisville today? I'm glad that Dave was able to get a generator for your home.
We were told by our electric company today that it's going to be another week before our electric is restored. My husband hooked up a 5500 watt generator for our house. So far it will run the heat and lights and if I turn off the lights I can use the computer. If we need to do laundry we turn the heat off.
We did make it to the farm yesterday. It was sad seeing all of the fallen trees and the aftermath of this ice storm. We will have to have repairs made to the house because the tree went through the roof. At least it didn't damage my great-grandmother's bedroom suite that I had stored in that room. The farm truck is definitely gone...smashed to the ground by two trees.
The National Guard arrived yesterday to provide assistance. The folks in Lyon County were told that there would be no water on Friday, but fortunately a generator arrived for the water station and water was restored Saturday afternoon. Looting had also started taking place so a curfew has been put into effect from 5pm - 6am.
I am just thankful that the temps have warmed up and the ice has melted. It will make the job easier for the power crews to work and get power restored even quicker.

Donna - Did you get to your farm? How is your house? I hope it's not too bad. And I'm glad nobody was hurt whene the tree fell. You guys must have a fantastic generator. The small one we found at Home Depot only ran a large, freestanding heater we had and some lights and the tv. But along with a kerosene heater, we were able to stand to stay at our house in Louisville. We still don't have power at the farm in Irvington. Keep us posted on how things are for you guys.

Man, I had no idea any of this was going on (no tv). I had heard something about Arkansas a few days ago. I didn't know storms had affected so much of the country! I hope everybody over there is ok and that the damage isn't too severe.

Donna, glad you checked in too, post under Miss Wilma checking on all of them this last week, if you want to go read that one.
Oh my, I bet you are anxious about knowing how the farm is, you be careful girl, stay safe.
