I made the mistake this morning of turning on the local tv news to catch the weather report... and forgetting to shut off the tv before 7am. Therefore, I got the gruesome news from Iraq delivered to me on a spoon. I sat there and cried.... I can't imagine how these families are dealing with their losses... and the children... the whole war situation has me outraged. I know all of the outlets that are available for directing my energy toward change, everything from political activism to prayer; however, the MOTHER in me just wants to march immediately somewhere, maybe over there, and say ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I felt a bit more centered after I did some spiritual reading, but it just lingers. Is anyone else feeling this same despair? How are you coping?

I agree, our family has had to worry about my cousin's son, whi has served two terms in Iraq already and he just turned 22. His father is still in the army a well and has to worry about being called. They occasionally call to see if he will "volunteer" to go, but will only go if he is forced to. Not that he doesn't want to serve his country but at 45 he still has a family to take care of.
My heart goes out to everyone that is affected, and we ALL are in some way.

Thankyou all for your thoughts on this issue. It is one that is hard to talk about and something that I think we all feel very deeply on some level. I do not know a family personally here in this neighborhood that is not in some way directly affected by this and other war issues. I live very near several military installations here and everyone here has at least one family member either in the war directly or somewhere in supporting positions. It is hard to openly oppose the war and not lose every friend you have. I have strong belief in the collective power for good that we can do in the form of prayer and meditation.

I will be diligent about not watching the news.
I will hold my highest thoughts for safety for all of those working in Iraq, whether military or civilian.
I will hold my highest thoughts also for those who feel they have no other options.
I will hold my highest thoughts for those devasated by this violence.
And collectively, we can ENVISION A MIRACLE: PEACE. |

This is (very sad) news to me. I haven't had tv on or read the newspaper in days. I grew up with the Viet Nam war being broadcast each evening on the news,and I hoped I'd never have to go through that again. As the mother of a 16 year old, I dread that the draft will be reactivated. My nephew (just 21) is stationed in Germany, awaiting orders. I worry for him too. Even in all this, I wonder, worry and pray for the people of Iraq, who had no choice in any of this... I mean no disrespect to our troops serving over there, but I think we can disagree with the actions, but still support the men and women serving.
Kathy A is right, never underestimate the power of collective prayer!

Yes, the entire situation is very depressing. We just have to be strong and you are right Kathy, we have to have hope that our prayers and positive thoughts and actions will prevail to create peace. On the voting issue it's really important to help people that don't normally vote to get registered and educated. My son in law is registered for the first time in his life.

I hear ya Clare! Yesterday I was reading some writings by a buddist nun, in her teachings she said those who are filled with compassion and are sensitive to others needs, feel the pain and the suffering. One must balance this stress by savoring every beautiful moment that comes to us in the present.... Still there are times when you feel you must do something, on what ever level we can. Never underestimate the power of collective thought and prayer. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is visualizing a miracle. Sometimes the feeling of despair is over whelming, as you say. I think it helps to talk about it. I also think we must act when we can, and be constant with our positive affirmations, and perhaps most important don't forget to VOTE. I don't what to be political here, I'm just glad to read your statement, enough already!!!! This is helping me cope! I'm sending you some warm light, with this post, Kathy |

I agree with you. I was horrified to hear about the American hostage yesterday that was beheaded. Oh- I could hardly even write that let alone think about it. Are there more today? Part of me says that by ignoring the tv (news in particular) dishonors what the soldiers are going through and their sacrifices but then again it saddens me so much to hear about it.
When will this war end..............
