Posted - Jan 19 2009 : 04:56:48 AM Yes- its true, Im going to cut way back on my spending. Hope this new plan lasts for more then a day or two. We don't owe any money, but just the everyday living costs are, well you know, not pretty good. Sooooooo, except for the thrift store, and famgirl soap, Im going to try and behave myself. Lets see how I do.

Posted - Jan 19 2009 : 1:01:10 PM That is a good idea. My daughter and I go to junk places around here pretty frequently, but in all those trips I have never seen the shutters wide enough to fit my interior windows. I am making myself feel better by saying they are the last window treatment I will put on these windows! I love old shutters though. Great idea, Debbie.

Posted - Jan 19 2009 : 09:43:33 AM Jeannie...I would have gone to a place like we have here that has recycled building materials. They would have paid you to take shutters from their stash....not really, but things like that are way cheaper than new! You just have to look outside the box when doing home projects. People often say at my house..."I wouldn't have thought about using that... like that!" like using bent spoons for curtain tie backs...etc.etc.etc.... Debbie

Posted - Jan 19 2009 : 06:59:54 AM Nancy Jo - you can keep on selling your sale drawers (which, by the way, is such a neat name....is that an old fashioned name or did you make it up?) and use the proceeds to do a little thrifting......
We are becoming more aware of our spending too. Just cutting back and driving less, and doing less shopping on a Friday night for the fun of it, or junkin for fun. I have never been one to buy lots of clothes, but I do love books and quilts, and household items. I am trying to train myself to stop. It is easier than I thought.
Here is one dilemma I have - I want to keep the house looking nice. For instance, I just ordered interior shutters for the bedroom windows (I have wanted them for several years now)......I could have kept the curtains. But I also want to keep the house updated. It is a fine line! Those are the kind of purchases I always stuggle with. We also need a new roof in the next year or so, and should retile the bathroom floors.......jeesh!

Posted - Jan 19 2009 : 06:44:25 AM Wow Nancy Jo, I hadn't visitied your blog for a while and you have been posting like crazy. 'Nuff said!. I have been laying low too. You are right about everyday living prices. and now that half the girls have moved back home for awhile---well you know--it isn't easy for them either. So my house is full but my pocket book isn't. But I will blog on and so will you. MB
