Posted - Jan 18 2009 : 3:21:20 PM I was pouring a cup of tea and the lid fell forward from the pot (it isn't supposed to be able to do that) and broke my favorite tea cup!! I am SOO bummed! I want to cry :(

Posted - Jan 19 2009 : 08:26:35 AM Allee i have Christmas decorations from when i was a child that have broken. In the spring I am going to make a garden stone/stepping stone and place the pieces in it. Another idea for your tea cup

Posted - Jan 19 2009 : 06:49:58 AM Thanks ladies! I knew that farmgirls would understand!
Zan- A pinkeeper is an excellent Idea! Might do that instead of the bird feeder!

Posted - Jan 19 2009 : 12:11:19 AM Oh, Alee, that is sad, but at least you're making lemonade with lemons.
Hey, another thought I had was to maybe make the teacup some sort of pinkeep/pincushion holder (?)
Ugg, I feel your pain!

Posted - Jan 18 2009 : 7:57:15 PM Wow, that looked like a really pretty cup and you had the matching saucer for it, too.
If you want to glue it back together for a craft or bird feeder, super glue works great on ceramic and china. I don't know if super glue is food-safe, though.

Posted - Jan 18 2009 : 4:22:28 PM Thanks Jeannie! That is super sweet of you!
You gals make me feel so much better!
Cheryl- that is a not-so-great picture up above but it was a white cup with gold trim. It was one of the ones that was more octagon shaped than round and had ribs going down the cup and the top was scalloped. It had blue bachelor button type flowers painted on the outside and a cluster on the inside as well.
Jessie- yes that is exactly what I am thinking of doing. I am going to have to find a nice clear glue to use. Hopefully the birds will like it! Or perhaps I will use a food-safe glue and let it be Nora's big-girl tea cup until she learns to be more gentle. That way if she sets it down a bit rough then it wouldn't be one of my nicer ones! lol She absolutely LOVES taking tea in a pretty cup. In fact I was trying to pour her a cup of tea when the lid broke the cup!

Posted - Jan 18 2009 : 4:16:55 PM One of the MJF magazines (the old one, pre-advertising days) has directions on how to make a birdfeeder out of a teacup. It looked very easy...basically just supergluing the cup and saucer together and gluing them to a stake to put in the ground. |

Posted - Jan 18 2009 : 4:16:34 PM Oh Darn.. Don't ya just hate it when that happens..Usually tea pots have little indentations where the top fits into. Don't feel bad, I would cry too.. What did the cup look like? Was it a prize china piece? Maybe you can find a replacement like it...(( hugs)) Cheryl

Posted - Jan 18 2009 : 4:08:16 PM I am going to try to glue it back together and make a crafty type project out of it. I have heard of making bird feeders and such out of them.

Posted - Jan 18 2009 : 4:06:14 PM Well, I believe it was an antique, but it wasn't a family heirloom. It was a limited edition though!! I am so bummed. My tea pot has this safety catch on the lid and normally I hold the lid but I was trying to hold Nora at the same time and the lid must have gotten jiggled just wrong enough to not engage the catch. So now I am using my back up favorite cup. It's pretty but I am still feeling bummed.
