I'm sure most everyone has seen this on the news....a plane out of NYC going to Charlotte, NC had to do an emergency water landing on the Hudson River due to (speculation) birds getting into the engines, shutting both down. It's a terrible thing to happen, but it could have been so much worse. It's a best case scenario of what to do in such a case, the pilot and co-pilot acting in a very controlled way to bring the plane down, very smoothly according to witnesses, keeping it afloat so the passengers got out safely. At this time, all passengers and crew are alive, with hypothermia, but could have been a lot worse. Within a matter of minutes, all boats, such as ferries and other passenger and rescue boats were there and got everyone to safety. Today is one of the coldest days in years and anyone in the frigid waters wouldn't have had a chance within minutes. Kudos to the pilots, and crew, not to mention the passengers for acting calmly. Kudos to the surrounding boats and rescue teams for an outstanding job!

Yep, all over the news here. Actually, one of my friends called as the plane zoomed right by her house as it touched down. The pilot is a hero!

I can only say Angels were guiding those pilots & plane. It was a miracle.

I agree, the pilot did an awesome job in this situation. This could have been a terrible tragedy.
