I heard some sad news on the evening news....The Hancock Fabric store in Spokane, it's roof collapsed in from the excessive weight of the snow....it was so sad, watching the T.V., to see all those poor, cold, shivering bolts of fabric,,,,homeless & forlorn!!!!

It will be months before the store is rebuilt & up and ready for their Easter Fabric sales.....

I for one will light a candle & hold it high in the dark, and sing, "We will over come".....won't you join me? (giggle)

Oh, no, that is bad! Was it the one on Francis? I have a big old farm house and a new sewing room so I could take on a lot of 'little ones'.

But what if if DIDN'T land on the fabric? What if it fell in the yarn or sewing sections? All those pins and patterns! All those buttons and dressmaking and quilting notions.... OH MY!! Would THOSE things be considered contaminated? After all, the patterns are in big metal drawers, the needles and most of the sewing notions in packages that can easily be removed and disposed of, the contents sealed and quite safe.... hmm....... I'm willing to adopt ANYTHING that needs a forever home!!! (LOL!!!) ~~~ Tracy

Most likely, all that was even close to where the roof collapsed will be considered contaminated. If the building is old, likely there's abestos in the ceiling. To prevent possible lawsuits, most stores have to destroy the product and have it hauled away by certified companies. They likely have ins to cover the damages and will claim the loss. I've seen some useful products put into crushers or locked dumpsters for that reason. It's a shame, but they can't be too careful in this day and age with so many ready to sue over anything.
Firemama Posted - Jan 06 2009 : 2:54:41 PM
If I could get into town I would check the dumpster, lol. But it is probably covered with snow and all kinds of stuff(unless one of our other sisters has been down there and raided it,lol). Last year the Buggy Barn had a leak in their roof and some fabric got SLIGHTLY "damaged" they still sold what they could at 1/2 price. I got a few nice peices..

See, I told them something bad would happen if they closed their store in the Tri-Cities. (Just kidding) I must say I would rather have that store than two JoAnns.

Maybe we could organize some sort of save the fabric organization! We could rescue poor fabric from all over the US and Canada!

Really it would be a great time to dumpser dive for that store. It would be horrible to throw out fabric that just needed to be washed!

I'm singing and burning my candle all the way to the Hancock Fabric store in Billings for you all this week.

I will be glad to give anyone of you a signed letter stating your creditability to adopt not one but many bolts of FABRIC. As a farmgirl I know that each one of you could use each bolt quite lovingly and without waste. Please be safe.

Oh No !! I can't think of anything worse. Hopefully some of the fabric can be salvaged. OK, I just thought of something worse, Barns and Nobel.
Alee Posted - Jan 06 2009 : 07:07:11 AM
I think you all should track down the general manager of the store and tell them you want the ruined merchandise! I bet they will just shovel it into a dumpster. Or at least ask what is going to happen to it.

Us farmgirls know that fabric washes!
