Scott and I do not live high on the hog and save for a rainy day but we are getting a little money for our move with the military. I would like to do something nice for Charlie's daycare. They are the BEST in town. Seriously, she keeps her teacher/child ratio low on purpose, not interested in just making money but more interested in the care of those kiddos. They are very loving and let the kids be kids and do not just leave them watching movies all day. They just let them play and NEVER do they deny them a drink or food, just because they don't have the budget. Would it be alright to write them a check for say $500? Is that rude? : )

I don't think Ms. Cooper would consider it all rude, Heather. I think she will be over joyed!
When we are lucky enough to find someone that is that wonderful with children, we should always let them know.
It takes a very special kind of person to deal with kiddos on that level and not all us have it.

Heather,
Definitely go with your first instinct and let them know how much you appreciate them. I'm sure they will use the money wisely or they may even ask if you had something in particular that you wanted them to do with it. it's nice when you can encourage those who are doing their best instead of those who are looking for the cheapest way to make a buck.

I am also writing a small diddy for the local newspaper. There is a competitor in town who is building their 3rd daycare and trying to put them out of business. Many people are protesting it, me included. The have like 24 kids in a classroom that is half the size of what Charlie is in now and the teacher turnover is VERY high. The food they serve is all pre-packaged junk food, because they can buy it in large bulk. Ms. Cooper, the owner of Charlie's, tries to buy as nutrionally balanced as possible, even if it means buying less but buying better. I love them!!! : )

I don't think it would be rude at all. I would write a nice card saying pretty much what you ostd here and how you respect and admire them for that so you wanted to give a gift of thanks.
