In August my Aunt was married after 10 years of widowhood. We had a tea party bridal shower for her, and it was loads of fun. I recently found a rubber stamp with both a teddy bear and tea pot on it, so I've decided to host a "teddy bear tea party" for a few friends. Does anyone have any idea when teddy bears became popular? I know the idea can be traced to Theodore Roosevelt, but when were the bears actually sold? I'd appreciate anyone enlightening me!!!

Dear Girlfriends, I celebrated Rural Women's Day 12 hours earlier Sat. evening. My husband and I went to a bonfire party at our dear friend's farm 7 miles from us. They have a beautiful old farm house and horse farm and celebrate the autumn harvest by inviting neighbors and friends for the bonfire and beer and munchies. The highlight was Mark bring a 1937 farm truck restored to look like the truck the Clampetts drove in "Beverly Hillbillies". The bed of the truck was old railroad ties and he had fastened old chairs, a old iron bathtub,a torn up mohair couch, logs with axes imbedded, ect... We all climbed into the back and he took us on a tour of his land and surrounding county. The truck backfired really loudly and he said it was a shotgun barrel underneath the truck filled with harmless??? gun powder igniting! It was quite an experience and loads of down home Kansas fun! I thought of all you gals sitting on the truck and I spread the MJ farm word!

Hi all,

The tea party went well! Eleven ladies of varying ages, from 11 to 81, had a wonderful time with loads of tea, cookies, home-made scones, cheese and cream puffs. We're all set to exercise today, no doubt. The morning started out with, would you believe, a couple of inces of snow!
We had rain all day Saturday with thunder and lightening, but the snow was unexpected here. We exchanged gifts of tea or teddy bears, and made plans for more tea parties in the upcoming months.

Well, it sounds like everyone had fun on Rural Womens' Day so far, despite the various weather across the country.

We enjoyed a picture postcard day. Blue sky, no humidity, and just a slight breeze. It was perfect. I celebrated by planting my fall garden. I put in broccoli, snap pea seeds, and lettuce. I shared some of my peppers with my woman/neighbor friend across the street. She eats them raw with dip! I am still getting lots of peppers. We had a great chat across a glass of tea.
My next door neighbor and I spray painted a wicker table out in our joining back yards (we have no fences between us). She found it in a junk pile at the end of our street and saved it.
Then I had a glass of wine on my porch with another friend later in the day. We chatted until the mosquitoes found us in early evening.

I did not have a big group over, but a friend at a time throughout the day, and we sat outside and loved the weather and the woods and trees behind my house. I also sat in the sun and started a new book - The First Five People You Meet in Heaven. Very interesting so far.

Thought of you all during the day! My farmgirls friends!

Eileen---Hope your day went well and the rain didn't dampen your spirits! We had crazy weather Saturday. It was in the 60's and gloomy all day then about 6:30pm the sky turned BLACK and thunder and lightning roared around us in biblical proportions for the next 10 minutes! THEN...hail the size of ping pong balls! My campers called later to tell me they had been having "snowball" fights for the last hour! My father used to say if you don't like the weather in New Jersey, just wait a minute it will change! I guess that's what he was talking about! Rural Women's Day was very chilly but sunny so we made our outdoor projects in the sunshine and headed back in to warm up.
A big pot of stew, mulled cider, crusty bread and we were set for an afternoon of "creating". Women are such amazing creatures! I looked around and almost everyone had brought something they were working on and the diversity was something to behold. Knitting, quilting, embroidery, halloween sewing, and one new friend was carving a wood block (a mantle detail)! It was a good day and a little bit of all of you was with us, I shared my MJF mags with everyone and I think we have a new group of fans! As James Taylor says..." The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time..." Bramble

So Girlfriends,
Today is the big tea party day, Ready , Set, Go!!!!!
We are having a huge downpour here in Quilcene. Perfect day for this indoor fun. I had sort of hoped we could be outdoors enjoying my umbrella picnic table and icecream store chairs but I guess we will have just as much fun indoors. Teas ready to brew and the shortbread is baking.
Have fun all.

Since my guys are camping this weekend, I had already planned a "hen" party with the girls. In honor of Rural Women's Day I think we will make wreaths from gravevine and honeysuckle ( we have loads!) and maybe everyone can make a pumpkin flower arrangement to take home too!
We always do pot luck but I am going to mull cider and see what other goodies I can come up with. It will just be fun to share the beautiful fall day(we hope!) and remember that nature still has a lot to teach us! I will raise my glass to all of you! Bramble

My little girl, her collection of stuffed bunny rabbits, my labrador retriever and Jack Russell terrier, some camomile tea for my daughter and a glass of white wine and strawberries for myself, and shortbread cookies, and of course doggie bisquits for my canine buds and we will join you on the 17th Oct. I love tea parties and so do my girls. This will be a first for my dogs, but they love parties of any type!

Oh, this is great! A virtual tea party, you are all invited to attend. October 17, 4 PM EDT,
sit down, put your feet up, put on some favorite music, have a friend over, brew some tea for your favorite teacup or have a glass of sherry, some cookies or scones. Welcome to all!

Hello ladies What a great idea to have a virtual tea party of sorts for all of us around the country who can't attend in person. I think that I will buy a new tea cup just for Oct 17 at 4pm.

I will put it on the calendar to have a "cuppa" at 1pm, West Coast, on October 17th, and I'll be thinking of you all!I'd better make it decaf, or I'll still be thinking of you at midnight!

Well, I have made all my invitations (hand stamped and colored) and will take all your suggestions seriously, esp. about the wine! Perhaps some sherry, since the tea party will be in the afternoon.
I wish all of you could attend, perhaps some of you could plan a party for Oct. 17 at 4PM EDT?? It would be as if we all were at one big party!

Jeannie,
I agree with the wine! I love a good glass. But I would love to come to Cecelia's Tea Party! There is website "Sandy's Tea Society" That has links showing women's tea party clubs. I enjoy tea when I still want something hot, but have had too much coffee.

Cecelia, I think all of my teddy bears would love to come to your tea party as well!! Can you accommodate an additional 10 or so bears?? lol!

Cecelia -
You have a great idea with the tea party. You would be fun to live near! I hope you have lots of fun. But I think I would have to have a glass of wine! :)

Kim, thanks so much for the hint, I'll be sure to look up Steif Co. Wish you all could come to the tea party! In keeping with the ideas on the new health forum, I think it's time to revert to some "olden" ways, perhaps not of red tents and women's lodges, but perhaps just women getting together, talking, indulging themselves (darn the diets) with goodies, etc. May sound a bit selfish, but it's important to pass on knowledge in this way, with no interuptions from family and other concerns of the day. An anti-stress party perhaps!

I love tea parties and anything to do with tea. I don't know that much about teddy bears except that I love them but I have my whole kitchen decorated in tea pots. All colors and it is so cute. I have tons of people comment on how cute all the different tea pots are and the varity of colors make my kitchen unique. Have a happy tea party..wish I were there .

You could log onto Stief (Steif) Company. I bet they would have some historical facts about teddy bears.
