Does anyone know where I can buy a Kitchenaid mixer larger than five quarts at a good price?

What are your opinions about Kitchen Aid mixers?

Belle

I have had a Kitchen Aide for 25 years, my Dh fixed it 2 times, and it finally gave up....
Now, I have a Bosch, I would only have it....it can mix 18 to 20 cups of flour and the Kitchen aide only mixes 14 or 15....
I will ony have a Bosch now, I bake for Farmers Markets....

I got mine from Abt Electronics. http://www.abt.com/category/KitchenAid/669.html They're local for me but do ship. (They will usually beat a sale price of a competitor)

I was going to get the Artisan, but dh considers things of this nature "tools" and bought me the professional instead. I love it! I mix up huge batches of meat for meatballs in it and it never slows down.

This year I'm going to try my hand at bread making with it.

I got mine 5 or 6 yrs ago from a tv infomercial, real early in the morning, directly from kitchen aid. The great thing was the payments were spaced out over 4 months with no interest...a great way to get one!

I'm thinking about the Artisan Model; there are just two of us and my baking is usually small scale. The professional model is beautiful but I think its too big for my counter. I would also use it to make butter; we have a farm that sells raw milk down the road and making homade butter and yogurt is one of my goals for this year.It sound as if everyone is happy with their mixers!

I have the professional model and love it. I bought the extra bowl and it was well worth the money to have it. I use mine all the time. Such a joy to have a mixer that is rated by horsepower. I got mine from a Kitchen supply store on-line and it was about $50 cheaper than any of the usual sources but it's been awhile so I can't remember what site I bought it from. Hope you take the leap. If you cook a lot it is really worth every penny.

I think it is....but it's been so long--I'll have to go home and look at the manual, if I can find it
. I just keep it plugged in, and locked down, so that when I need to use it, I simply move it out (which, is no simple feat seeing how heavy that thing is--and turn it on!)

Cool that we have the same color, too. I don't recall there being much choice in that size.

I too love my KitchenAid mixer! Mine is smaller than the 6 quart, just a regular home model. I got it in 1980 and it is still chugging along! I even painted it when my kitchen colors changed. (Now I wish I had the original color back.) The new ones are sure pretty!

Chiming in....I have the industrial model (pewter gray in color) and I love it. I use the heck out of it, that's for sure. Initially, I was a bit gunshy about it, but after using it one holiday to make 10 pies, I was sold!!!

I have a cobalt blue 6 qt Kitchenaid stand mixer that I got as a wedding present 19 years ago from my husband's brother and sisters. I love, love, love it!
The color is gorgeous. it is a work horse and I use it all the time. if you want to investigate picking the right stand mixer model for your needs visit kitchenaid and compare up to 4 models
http://www.kitchenaid.com/catalog/category.jsp?categoryId=310#156
You can see what they are making today and then shop for a better price than the manufacturer SRP (Suggested retail price) on the model you want.
Be careful when it comes to price shopping for these mixers- many lesser priced items are actually "refurbished" models. If you are ok with reburbished, then you can save some money. But in my opinion, the better value would be to find a good price on a new muxer. Buyer beware...
Happy hunting, Karen

I like my 5qt KA mixer, but don't love it... My MIL got it for a decent price at Costco many years ago as a wedding gift. It still goes, but I can only do one batch of wheat bread at a time (aka 2 loaves). It's also not the artisan, so the top/motor doesn't flip up, which makes it a little more difficult to dump in ingredients and scrape down the bowl with the beater still in it.

Honestly, I'm still drooling over the Bosch Universal and had been introduced to it a few years ago. Maybe if I find a killer deal on craigslist at some point... Have you also started checking your local Craigslist or kijiji or whatever you've got locally? Might be worth a shot if you know what you're looking for and can spot a shady deal.

I love my Kitchen Aid mixer and it's really getting its use this holiday season! I have also seen them on sale at Kohls and if you do sign up for credit there I also believe you get a % off and coupons in the mail. Good luck in your search!

I have been looking at and wishing for a Kitchen aide! I know that they come in a lot of colors including metallics. Does anyone have a favorite color when it comes to their mixer??? Has anyone bought one on sale this season???
City_Chick Posted - Dec 27 2008 : 05:27:00 AM
I love my Kitchen Aid. I got it for a wedding gift nearly 17 years ago and it still runs like a dream. I also love the grinder attatchment for it.

I always see them on sale at Kohl's for a either much cheaper than other stores in my area. Or they sometimes offer it where if you buy the mixer you get another kitcher aid product free or 50% off. I guess the sale depends on their head mans mood that week. But check their sales fliers. I have also been told that if you sign up for a new credit card their you will get an extra % off the sale price. I don't want a card their so I always pass the offer up.

Hugs~

I'd love to get one some day. Of course it will have to be purple and then perhaps at that time special ordered since the only colors I have ever seen are the reds blacks and whites. I know they come in just about every color there is

I got the large one last year for Christmas. My old one died after 20 years and several gear replacements. I love it.

I love my Kitchen Aid too. It is worth every penny! I would suggest you keep an eye on the ads for them in the paper & surf the internet too for the rest price. Places like Bed, Bath and Beyond always have $10 off or 20% off coupons, so it may be a good idea to see if the place with the best sale price offers coupons too. Good luck on finding the best price!

I've had my Kitchen Aid for many, many years now and LOVE it. I recommended it to my sister and she bought one but had the same problem that Belle did. She returned hers and got another with the same problem. I think she's on her third but this one she's had for a long time. We've got a lot of the attachments and used it this fall to grind up the elk for sausage, etc... Worked like a charm.

I have the 6 quart, which is from Costco. You can buy an 8 quart at specialty kitchen shops and they are over $400.00. I believe they call it the "Professional." I love mine . . . it is bright red and makes my heart sing!

I bought a Kitchen Aid at Walmart several years ago. The motor started knocking about the second time I used it, to kneed bread. I called Kitchen Aid. They said the walmart mixers were special made for them and not as powerful as the ones you buy elseware. They recomended Sams. I returned it to the store and never replaced it. I still use my Kitchen Aid hand mixer that I have had 25 years. Oh, and kneed my bread by hand unless I am making bread machine bread.
