Posted - Dec 15 2008 : 4:53:50 PM I decided that I am really going to perfect a few things instead of trying to be good at everything. Like, I am good at cross stitching but give me any other craft project and it is a disaster. I am also perfecting certain food dishes instead of trying to learn and make 100's of new recipes. I am working on my chicken marsala and trying to find the perfect mac and cheese but I have given up on baking, which always burns on me. I finding too, with my wardrobe, that a bit of a more uniform look makes my life so much easier. Maybe I am just getting comfortable with me and I no longer feel the need to compete in the arena of life, so I can perfect the things I truly love. Interesting huh???

Posted - Dec 16 2008 : 08:52:43 AM I totally see what you are saying Heather . . . and I think most of us have some funny experiences we could share from learning the hard way what we are NOT good at! But I also fully agree that it is important to try new things and expand our horizons and way of thinking. I am currently learning to do penny rugs and loving it! No one is teaching me, but I am learning from trial and error. I want my boys to grow up believing they can do or be anything, so I need to show them the example of not being afraid to try something new. This has resulted in my having to attempt such things as jet skiing, tubing behind a ski boat, etc. but the sense of adventure and accomplishment are all worth it. So, I suppose, like all things in life, it is a balance. Accepting the things we cannot do, but challenging ourselves to do more each day. And, actually, I still struggle with the "accepting the things I cannot do" part . . . I usually just keep trying until I can do it!
Hugs & blessings,
Brenda

Posted - Dec 16 2008 : 08:44:48 AM Diana- I need a break from trying to do it all and experience all. I have been on marathon mode since I was 16, time for a nice sweet break. I will continue to challenge myself in other areas, such as education and family time, but want to simplify my home routine in order to have the time for these things. BELIEVE me I am the worlds biggest smarta** and I am always the first one to laugh at myself. HA!!! : )

Posted - Dec 16 2008 : 08:08:22 AM That is great but you also need to challenge your mind with new stuff and how about that laugh attack when you try on that outfit that you know it's going to be a awful but yet you do and you have to laugh out loud at your self. Don't let your self get into a place that nothing ever changes. You can't eat chicken marsala every night. I had this thought about 20 years ago and now that I am 54 I am thinking why did I ever stop looking at new things. Just don't get yourself in a rut. Learning new things is a blast. Diana
