Well we turned on the lights, They looked great from the road...We were very proud of our work...left the house for the play which was not one we really enjoyed. "the Death of a Maiden.." The cast was ok . Theater was Great. There was a lotof controversy over this one & we understand why now...I'm getting ahead of the story...
We went to Dinner first, had 6:30 reservations, At 7:30 we had only had our drinks, appetizer and salads. The play started at 8 .. So I (because DH,never has the Nerve to say anything) told the waiter we had to go without eating, He brought over the owner. They left, assured us our plates were coming ....Dh went to the "boys room" I nicely went to the desk, Owner came over I offered to pay for our wine, coffee, salads & apetizers.. he apologized over & over.. & insisted on us NOT PAYING for anything.. He was very good.. The restaraunt just opened and they have not got all their ducks in a row yet. We will go back...but tonight had no dinner..He said to ask for him next time we came in....Came home to No lights. They were all off.. The connection had dropped and I think we sorted out the problem. It was too cold to spend much time out there figuring out whats what.. but We will check it out today when it warms up to 38.. Ha! what a fiasco!

I had a similar situation with my parent's tree this year, I always put it up for them while I'm home for Thanksgiving. Got it up and lit it and a strand in the middle didn't work, took it out and put in another, sat down and in a few minutes a third of the tree went out, fixed that and sat down, a little while later 99% of the tree went out....took off the lights, took apart the tree (I like to put the lights on layer by layer as I assemble the tree), replaced lights and this time YAY, it stayed lit....only took 9 hrs to put on the lights this year...then started on the ornaments the next day...

Cheryl,

I'm sorry you had such a tough evening. I know exctly how you felt about the lights. We got our lights up - had one strand that was dead so ran to town to buy another. Got it up, everything looked good and when DD plugged in the new strand - POOF - blew the whole thing. But we fixed it today and alls well.

Hi Cheryl!

That sounds like a rotten evening! Darn! Too bad the show wasn't fabulous! That would have made up a bit for it!

Cheryl, so sorry you had such a bad evening. But glad for you that your house didn't burn down while you were gone. Hope you get it all straightened out and enjoy the lights.

Be safe. Christmas lights can cause fires. Good luck and enjoy

Holy Shumoley! Dh just checked out the problem this morning... brought in the problem piece. We thought we were being efficient & clever to hook everything up to one switch at a light socket. Well it blew & tripped the lights off...and actually burned & melted the plug in. This is a new house so it wasnt an old faulty wiring problem. We are very fortunate it blew as it could have started a fire... Wont do that again..Instead we will plug them into the GFI switch plates.

Sorry you had a rough evening. My lights wouldn't work the other day, either. I tried everything....even pretended to understand breaker boxes long enough to see that it wasn't the problem. Turns out, the GFI outlet tripped because the light plug was moist....I had to reset the plug in my kitchen to make the outside lights work!
