I am looking for some ideas about how to make a birdfeeder with recycled materials. I have seen ones made with plastic soda bottles but I am looking for something that looks a little nicer. Does anyone have any ideas or internet links? I'd like to make feeders for my dad, MIL and BIL for christmas.

Someone on here once showed her homemade bird feeder. It was a teacup and saucer glued together and glued to a wooden dowel and then placed in the garden. I was really pretty :D

I have a book with all kinds of bird feeders to make from recycled stuff. I'll take a look later and see what I can find in it.

Could you take a rope like plant hanger and set an old bowl or plate in it? It's not too hard to make one from rope...bailing twine would look nice with an old chipped porcelain pie plate...

Julie, how about some old stove top burner covers? If you're like me you've got a couple that have been, let's say, "charred". Place it upside down, drill some hole in the sides (3 or so in a triangle pattern) and string some wire, rope or twine through and hang from your favorite tree. Or you could cut down some washed out tin cans, fold the sharp edges down with pliers (don't want the birdies to cut their little feeties!)and drill some holes in the sides like the first suggestion. Either of these you could paint to make them look nicer.
Or you could leave the tin cans as it (just make sure there are no sharp edges). Place the intact end on table and cut some "mouse hole" type openings in the sides. Then again drill holes near the top (open end) and string with your choice of material.

Thanks. I am really trying to use recycled items. I don't have any gourds and don't want to have to buy wood. That is a nice one though.
