I used to put my up right before Thanksgiving, but I have become so hooked on fall decor and am so passionate about Thanksgiving, that I just don't want to cut the season short . . . so now I do it the week after Thanksgiving. And I do mean week . . . it literally takes me that long. I am going to try to cut down this year, but I say that every year. I do love it once it is done.

Hugs & blessings,

Brenda

Ya! me too Madelynne, every Christmas I was ill and we could never figure why until I was tested for allergies. I'm OK around certain Christmas trees, not sure which, but in my house I can't have it there 24/7.

I got my tree up last Friday. I am allergic to pine trees and have to use a fake tree. So I put it up around Thanksgiving and enjoy until after the first of the year. No water needed.

That's the one thing about living at a Buddhist center - these people have no Christmas spirit! ha ha I was cooking for the volunteers yesterday and they came in sooner than expected and Christmas music was playing on my computer! They looked a bit confused. It was quite funny really. :-)

I'm Christmas crazy though. Being a Christian and a Buddhist. But it's nice to hear about people's decorating. I won't be in Tucson with my daughter until mid-December and then we'll do the tree. All the decorations are with her.

But we did have a party here and one of the gals gave me 2 strings of pink Christmas lights for my yurt. I'll be cooking a Thanksgiving dinner for our volunteers and when I get back, I'm putting them up! I have a small solar panel but an inverter and enough power for these lights. I can't wait!

Rene, My first son was born on December 2. My solution (finally) to this problem of combining is to get him something really special for his birthday and a gift for Christmas. Both can be something he wants, but the birthday is the best one. I now do that for both my DDIL's too.

I usually wait until first weekend in Dec but this year we will not be here for Christmas so I am going to get out the Christmas tree and decorate the tree the day after Turkey day, My grandsons will be here and I think they would enjoy this. We will not see them Christmas day as they live in Washington, and with weather conditions poor and mountain passes to cross it will be difficult. I will get my Son in laws to help hubby string the lights up on the house. ( I sure hope this works) I have a tendency to have expectations that sometimes are not fullfilled. Wish me luck..

very cool Rene! :) It used to be a family thing to put up the tree, but mum is too busy, I do it when I have time. I think I'll have to help the grandparents. Mammy is having trouble with her shoulder/arm and grandpa well god love him he's a man :-p

My birthday is in the middle of Dec. So it has become some what of a tradition to get my tree up that weekend......I have always disliked having a Dec birthday and hearing, "no this is for your birthday and Christmas". I have often thought that I would change my celebration date to the same day but in JUNE... maybe this next year.. but for now.. the tree will go up on my birthday weekend.................

The best thing about the day after Thanksgiving is that we put away fall stuff and start with the Christmas stuff. My first thing to put out is an elec carasel that my Granddaughter bought me 10 or 12 years ago. It lights up, goes around and plays Christmas music. It cost her a whopping $80. It took all her savings + some. That was the most thoughtful and expensive gift I ever received. No one has ever spent "all" their money on me.

I'M ready to put mine up along with all the other stuff, but I'm forcing myself to wait until next weekend. Lets see if I hold out.
