Posted - Nov 14 2008 : 8:14:47 PM I started an etsy and I know alot of you girls have one as well. My question is how do you get people to look and buy? Do I need to reword things or add more pics? Any advice is appreciated. Blessings, Karen

Posted - Nov 23 2008 : 11:26:41 PM I've spent the last couple of days researching how to market Etsy. Here's a blog that I found. This young man sells on Etsy and loves to share tips with everyone. I'm going to try some of his ideas and see if it helps. My sales have been ok but I know they could be better.

Posted - Nov 20 2008 : 11:22:10 AM Thanks, Ann, for your positive feedback!
Kristin, try experimenting a bit with the lighting more. Maybe try full morning sun (behind you)? I'm no photographer, but I had to play around a bit until I found what worked for me; not professional, by any means, but they'll do! I know on etsy, pictures are really important; they grab the attention of your shoppers and you need yours to stand out beside all the other items on the page. Best of luck!!

Posted - Nov 20 2008 : 07:21:01 AM Ann, I'm just taking the photos outside next to a bush so it filters the sun. I tried just taking the photos inside and they didn't turn out very well, unless I used a south facing window. I'm also wondering how to get people to my shop, it seems the longer my items are listed the less people are visiting...:0( If you hear of any suggestions let me know!!

Posted - Nov 19 2008 : 08:53:23 AM You shop is adorable and your things are so lovely!!
Sure wish I had the magic formula for getting people to my Etsy store!! On Etsy newly listed items show up at the top of each category page. The thought is that if you list something every day then people will find you. I've had this happen a few times. But most of the people that visit my shop are ones that know about it through my blog, from this forum, or word of mouth. I do have a domain name and have it forwarded to my Etsy shop. That name goes on all my labels, business cards, email signature, etc. When you get enough hits to your shop it will eventually show up on the search engines. One trick that someone shared with me so that the search engines will pick it up better is to put a tag line in your shop title. You would find this under appearance. Mine is The Rustic Cottage - Handmade Soap and Bath Goods. If someone does a search for handmade soap that will help bring it up. Does that make sense???

Posted - Nov 18 2008 : 04:32:27 AM Molly, I just checked out yours too. Your soaps look good enough to eat! I had to take a second look at the sunflower soap. I've been craving pumpkin bread and that looked like it would hit the spot :)!

Posted - Nov 18 2008 : 04:30:01 AM Karen and Kristin - great job on both of your shops. Karen - you have so many things listed - that takes a lot of time in itself. Kristin - Your appearance has a great look. Your products too. Are you adding lighting as you take the photos?
It is fun to see what others are doing, creating and posting.

Posted - Nov 17 2008 : 11:25:54 AM Karen, Just checked out your store, I love what you have!! I just started a Etsy store the first of October, always looking for feedback on it. Maybe you could try added a bit about what you've created and why you are doing it. You can do this in your appreance page. You can also find some neat looking banner to make your shop more welcoming. They are pretty cheap, I think I got my avatar and banner for around $7.00 from Wildenblue. She is fantastic to work with!! As I said I'm also looking for suggestions, so if you come across anything will you pass it on!!
Thanks and good luck Kristin

Posted - Nov 17 2008 : 08:28:32 AM You have some great stuff! I love the nursing necklace idea; genius! How about adding a brief description to the picture? I bet many shoppers haven't heard of such a great invention and might be confused as to the idea behind it. :) Best of luck to you!

Posted - Nov 15 2008 : 05:35:40 AM Elise, A nursing necklace is for moms who breastfeed . They let the baby rub, hold,or play with the necklace as the feed and it keeps them occupied also keeps them from pinching mom. Thank you and Sherry for your kind words. Blessings, Karen
