does anyone have any ideas on how to date a treadle machine. I went to an antique place a week ago and low and behold they were selling this treadle machine in the cabinet . it has 4 drawers and it works. it came with the shuttle and bobbin. I just have to get some needles) not sure if they have to be different then the ones we have now. anywho, you guys are never going to guess what they wanted for it!!!! drum roll.. $35.00. no kidding!!!! I bought it so fast my head was spinning. we have amish by us and then sell the new cording to work the treadle part and I bought that so I was just wondering if I could date it? Any ideas? It is really cool!!! Beverley

I have a treadle sewing machine just sitting around here. Humm, maybe I should start dating as well! I will have to put that on my list of things to do. Just have not had the time.

LOL. When I read the title, I too thought: Why would she go on a date with a sewing machine.
Too funny and thanks for the laugh :)

Beverley,
What kind of machine is it? If it is a Singer it will be easy to date it by the serial number; other brands can be easy to impossible. Let me know what it is and I'll be happy to see what info I can dig up on it.
My passion is vintage and antique sewing machines.

I think my husband is much happier if i date the treadle sewing machine than a rosy cheeked man!!!!! hehehehehehe Yes it is a singer i will have to check that site out. The serial number is kinda worn off on this sewing machine so I am not so sure I will ever be able to really date it. but i just thought it would be fun trying.....thanks for the info....

Beverley, why on earth would you want to date a treadle sewing machine? Wouldn't a nice young man with rosy cheeks be much more fun? (Okay, just being silly on Friday morning and glad of the weekend!) Good luck. If it's a Singer, you might contact Singer, I think it's singer.com and they have lots of resources and information. My sister called them once about something and they were more than helpful. Happy Friday, and good job on the find! Judy
