Posted - Nov 11 2008 : 04:59:09 AM I just wanted to tell all our Veterans "Thank You" and that I am honored for their sacrifices for our nation. Thank you to their families for sharing them with all of us. Especially thank you, and condolances for the military families who have had their loved one give the Ultimate Sacrifice in the line of duty. Veterans, today we salute and honor you. Yours sincerely,

Posted - Nov 11 2008 : 11:50:10 AM I agree with all of you farmgirls. My several times-great grandfather served two hitches in the American Revolution, my husband's father, my father, my step-father, & uncle were in the navy and marines in Korea, my husband's uncles were in the airforce during Nam, my little brother, a marine, went up the coast of Kuwait in a tank in the gulf war, and currently my son in law, is a captain in the marines, and has served three tours in Iraq so far, he'll probably be sent to Afgahnastan. So yes, we owe them a lot.

Posted - Nov 11 2008 : 08:57:17 AM Thanks to all who served. In my family, that included my grandfather, a great uncle, my father (WWII), and several cousins. Within my family, we've served in the Army, Air Force, Navy, Merchant Marine (WWII), USMC, and Coast Guard. Guess that covers about all of them.
Our country asks little of us beyond paying our taxes and serving in the military. In times of peace, it's easy... but in times of war, you're likely to pay the ultimate sacrifice. When our vets return, it's our duty (and privilege) to serve them, providing for their needs in every way.

Posted - Nov 11 2008 : 08:20:59 AM My father served in the medics in WWII and my uncle flew planes. My cousin served in the Korean war. A good friend of ours - and father of two teenagers - left a month ago to serve a second term in Iraq. The teenager that helped on my dad's farm died when his helicopter was shot down in VietNam. (I decided I was going to marry Norman when he lifted me out of a post hole I'd fallen in. He was so strong! I was seven years old.)
The bravery of all the men and women who have ever served our country so humbles me. And so does the bravery of the families supporting them.
Thank you isn't nearly enough to express my gratitude.
God bless - Karen ~ Chickherder & Farmgirl Sister #311 |

Posted - Nov 11 2008 : 07:36:06 AM I thought I would share pictures of my two boys again this morning. They are both currently in the military. Lucas in New London CT and Thomas in YUMA (preparing to leave to Afghanistan).
I woke up to it raining here, which seems so appropriate somehow. While I certainly celebrate all the veterans, and am so very proud of my boys and the decisions that they have made to serve our country, and while I am so clear that if not for those willing to sacrific we may not have some of the freedoms we have........I feel a little like this morning the skies are crying for all those that we have lost..............a reminder of Freedom's COST.

Posted - Nov 11 2008 : 06:58:14 AM Oh Alee, thank him for me too!!! We don't have anyone living from WW2. Ole Ron was in Korea. Our step Grandson just got back from his 3rd tour in Irac.(sp?) My Grandpa was in the Spanish American War in 1898. I think every generation has someone to thank. |
