I just finished painting my kitchen cabinets a sort of mossy-green, and I'm really happy with how they look. My walls are white wainscotting, and my doo-dads, kitchen towels, etc. are white with red, for the most part.
I have one dilemma, though, I have hanging (wall) cabinets on one wall only. Between the 2 sets of hanging cabinets, my husband built and installed a beautiful wooden plate rack thingy. It sits higher on the wall than the cabinets on either side, but snugly between the cabinets; there is room for 8 plates, with 2 shelves (on top of each other) next to the rack (I put bowls and salad plates there). Mounted beneath this is a wine glass holder, and our water goblets hang there.
Okay, here's the dilemma. I've seen pictures where the plate rack in the middle is painted a different color or is left "natural", and I like that look. But I'd like other opinions, and dh doesn't really care.
What would you do? Paint the plate rack thingy moss green? Paint it a different color? Leave it natural (put a sealer on it, of course)? OR something else entirely?
I'd really love to hear your opinions :).

I too like the natural wood look of anything. If you paint it you really have a harder time going back. Good luck.

My take on it is to go natural and see how you like it...you could always paint it later if you decided you didn't like the natural but if you paint it first and don't like it then you waould have to strip it to get it back to natural again.

i think either way...paint it the same as the cabinets or leave it "wood"....however, regarding staining it: what are your floors like? if you have wood floors, i'd probably coordinate it dark or light with whatever they are. on the other hand, if they are tile or linoleum, go with the flow...! |

I am a woman of contrasts...I like it when you see something out of the ordinary. But if the wood is beautiful, maybe stain it so the grain shows through still instead of painting a solid color? You could choose something complimentary to your color scheme.

I think I'd leave it natural and maybe get some solid red plates..or white plates with a red edging to tie in the look.

I would go with the natural look with some type of sealant. I love the look of natural with color interspersed.

If it were me I would either paint it green to flow with the cupboards or I would do a dark wood stain. I LOVE a dark green and brown...actually what I'll be doing in my kitchen this winter hopefully. I'm not much of a natural wood person personally but hey.....I don't have to look at it every day either huh?!! If YOU like it when it's done thats all that really matters. Let us know what you decide though!!! |

I might rub a beeswax finish in. It really makes the wood glow and seals it against kitchen grime and moisture. I love natural wood. Or you could get a shade of moss green either a shade lighter or darker to make it more of an accent piece. I probably wouldn't paint it white as then it would "fall" back into the wall
