I just reposted an interesting article about the suffergets on my Musing and Mutterings blog.

I heard an interview on NPR the morning after the election with a woman in Texas who is 109 years old. Her father was a slave. I cannot even imagine watching the changes that she has seen in her lifetime, to go from a father who was born a slave to being able to vote for an African-American president, and to see him win. It is amazing

I am so excited to see our country moving in a new direction...heaven knows we needed it! And yes, what an emotional, historical moment as well (I know I got all choked up walking into my polling place early Tuesday morning). One of Obama's pledges during his campaign was to make government more transparent, and apparently he's already begun doing so. Check this out! http://change.gov/

honestly, i was not a big supporter or either candidate. yet, i am excited about the out come of this monumnetal election. having a black president is a huge deal, especialy in an era where many americans still remember the often bloody outcome of the civil rights efforts. also, i believe that obama is a very intelligent man and will not let his policys differ too far from the will of the american people. i know that there are a lot of dooms dayers out there talking about the mess we have just made by electing him, but that was said about Thomas Jefferson too and he successfuly steered this country through some sticky situations in it's critical infancy.

I voted last week before I left to go on my trip to Wash. state. I left to come back home on election day. I was glued to the radio all the way back. In the motel room I watched the news and saw the results. It is so amazing to me that we live in such a country to have these priveleges like we have. To see grown men cry because of what they have been through in their lifetime and to see the outcome of this election and know they had a part in it is awesome.

All the way across this great country of ours I saw big beautiful flags blowing in the wind. And I am so proud to be an American. Even though I did vote the other way, I think I'm ok with the way it turned out. I am eager to see what this man can accomplish for our country in the next few years.

Here, here! Have we evolved, or what?! I, too, am very proud of what the people of this country have done.

I am so proud and hopeful with the outcome of this election. And I truly believe we can move forward, all together, as a people, in making this country better.

It sure is a privelege to vote and I practiced mine even if the election was called before the polls closed here. That sometimes makes me feel like we don't count much but I still practice my privelege.

I feel like the weight of the world has been lifted off my shoulders! I know the next 4 years won't be easy, considering the nightmare the past 8 have been. But I feel we are on the right track now and Americans will pull together to move forward.

I, too, am cautiously hopeful. I am honored to have the right to vote. We as women, have come a long way and it is a good day in the world to be at least, on the voting front, considered an equal. As a woman, I consider myself a nurturer. I hope that we all can find some way to nurture understanding and care in these tough times.

I, too, am feeling rather hopeful. People sure were charged for this election which in and of itself was inspiring. When is the last time you remember a candidate having to use an outdoor venue to greet their supporters after an election because the attendance was so great? Nothing will change in this country if we as a people don't support it, and aren't willing to make the necessary sacrifices....I am very, very hopeful.

I voted early too, took the boys with me and let them experience the process. Waiting in line for our duty, pushing the buttons to make our choices. I enjoyed that my 11 year old had been watching the adds, he was reading the names as we went through and would say "Oh no, he gave himself a raise and not the police" or "oh yes, she's for homeschooling". I was impressed that he had paid such attention!

I voted early and often! Just kidding! My mother was born in an era when women did not have the right to vote so it is VERY important to me and I have never missed an opportunity to exercise my right to vote.

We voted last Thursday, also absentee. Everyone in our county votes absentee now. I really like it. More time, no rush.

We sent in our absentee ballots last week. We enjoyed being able to read over the ballot, taking our time. I always feel so rushed standing in that little booth while there are a bunch of people in line. There is so much talk about the voting machines not working, I am glad that we still use the paper, mark on with black pen, kind of ballot.

I voted on Thursday...had to wait in line for 1.5 hours, but definitely worth it to vote early.

I will be voting on Tuesday. DD is voting by absentee ballot since she's no where near the poll she is registered at.
