I just heard on the local news of a woman who tries to help families who lose their home to natural disasters, such as hurricanes, tornadoes or fires. The immediate need for these families is always shelter, food, beds, clothing, etc but she has started a "Home Sweet Home" program.

She basically delivers a box that contains:
1. 2 pictures frames.
2. 1 Large candle
3. Cozy throw
4. drawer utensil seperator
5. Kitchen draining board/rack/plug
6. Kitchen towels
7. one package of hangers
8. Toy truck for a boy, toy doll for a girl (if children are involved) or something age appropriate for older children
*If they have babies, she tried to get diapers, onesies, blankets and a little toy.

There were a few more thing but I can't remember them off the top of my head.

She picks all neutral colors. Her idea behind this is that when someone loses everything, it gets to be expensive just to replace the basic things like food, clothing, etc. She wants to give people a little home package of things that would be looked over in order to buy the basics, to get them started. She also solicites the local restaraunts, stores and businesses for free items or gift cards. I thought this was a great idea.
