I got to go shopping at Costco today!! Yay! I didn't want to spend over $300, and I came in way under at only $244! I am very happy with myself, and with Costco! They are doing a great job carrying lots of organics and environmentally friendly items too! Their bottle of environmentally friendly dish soap was cheaper for the same volume as the Dawn and only about twenty cents more expensive than the Palmolive.

Nora and I had or snacks as we walked through the store (the demo ladies). She really got a kick out of this, and even the cheese was a reasonable price!

We have been on a budget crunch to get a certain loan payed off, and or pantry was seriously suffering because of it! Now we have plenty of food and we have a monthly budget of $300 at Costco for the 3 of us.

Hi Celeste- Actually Costco carries some of her things Online only.

But yes, the fact that they carry some of her things at all is wonderful!

I love costco too...they stock fewer items then Sam's, but it's the kind of stuff I want to buy. I always take my price book with me to make sure the 'deals' they have their are as good as they seem, and for the most part they are. Plus their store brand, Kirkland, are a good value and the quality is good. Like others have said, they treat their employees well...right after our Costco opened last year, I had a lovely conversation with the gal who works the gas pumps. She said how great the job was and how reasonable her benefits were for her and her daughter as she was a single mother. I understand the CEO takes a reasonable salary (something like $250K/yr). Compared that to the millions the walton family rakes in--while cutting back on employee benefits in their stores. Plus, I believe some of the Costco's carry MaryJanes Farm products--don't they?

We don't have a Costco, but we have a Sam's Club (spawn of the evil Wal Mart ). DH and I shop it like we would a regular store...and with the winter I predict we're going to have, I want to make sure that our pantry is as stocked as it can be. We're lucky to be blessed with a fire place and a rockin' grill, so bring on a blizzard....well, maybe just the snow!

Amy Grace- That is wonderful! $50 at Costco really goes much further! We have decided that is going to be our main store.

Oh yeah - and being as super-cheap as I am - I manage to get out of there for under $50 almost every time (I go weekly because teenage boys drink a lot of milk:D) The checkers are always surprised at my total!

I buy all my dairy products at Costco - way cheaper, and they carry milk etc. that is certified rBGH free. Plus they are a NW company and like y'all mentioned, treat their employees well. They do have a lot of organics now

I love Costco! I am lucky enough to have one 10 minutes from my house. I buy lots of stuff there including oils for my soapmaking. Their prices are amazing. If you drink coffee they have the best deal on gourmet coffee. They roast it in the store and it is $7.99 for a 2 lb bag of beans. Beats the supermarket price of $10.99 a lb.

I love Costco for the stuff you don't want to buy spur of the moment 'cause you ran out. Like TP. It's sooo pricey at other stores. Plus I only have to buy a few times a year. I can buy 6 heads of romaine lettuce for less than the price of a 3 pack at a regular store.

I like their book section too - much cheaper than even Borders with a coupon.Mostly I buy gas, which tends to be at least 10cents/gal less. This week I paid $3.31, loved filling up the truck for less than $100.

I use Costco alot for meats (and veggies when my garden is done). Being from Ca, we had all fruits , all beggies at all times of the year. Here in Idaho, we have limted supply nd they just dont last as long, so I dont like buying any sort of quantity. Can you beleive they alreayd have their christmas stuff out? Another store you should all look for is Cash and Carry.

Alee, is Costco like Sam's? We don't have Costco here. But my aunt and uncle in Cal. go all the time.

Isn't it such a good feeling to have your pantry all stocked? I love it. Good for you.

I saw another post of yours about some land and a house you're trying to get. How is that going?

Chickabella- Yes, they treat their employees very well. I know through a family acquaintance a man who works there and he loves it. Great pay, great benefits, and never working on the main holidays.

What a blessing to have a full pantry Alee! Sounds like you shop well and make a meal plan for the month. I remember doing that when our children were at home. It gives us a sense of accomplishment to manage our households, doesn't it?! I love Costco to!!!!

Hugs,

Costco is a big help to our budget. Besides coffee and dry/canned goods, we also buy bulk greens for our geese there, along with fresh corn for the chickens. I've been grateful to see more organic supplies, and they've even started stocking pasture-raised chicken eggs (not that we need them anymore!). I hear that Costco also treats their employees well, which is a big plus.

Hi Heather-

We shop at Costco like it is or normal store. Their prices are amazing, their gas is cheaper, and they have a nice selection of things we like to buy. Plus the free samples can be lunch! LOL We got for example 2 gallons of milk for around $5 and cheese was much cheaper. Meat prices were about the same as the main grocery store, but better prices and less packaging.

Thanks Amanda! I wish I could go with you!

Cheryl- to bad they aren't closer, but at least they are close enough that you get to utilize them! :D

I love Costco too... But it is a big shopping day when we go as the closest is in Medford Oregon thats 70 miles from me and the next closest is 135 miles in Bend Oregon. we fortunately go there to both places often enough. Clay has Dr's in both cities. I also Love Trader Joes! I shop locally for the smaller things...I love the small shops here and frequent the locals.

Good job Alee!! I love Costco. I really helps me with just buying what I need every few months. I love the fact that you can find organics there. How do you think the prices compare to the regular stores?
