Today I started my first day of jury duty. Which I now know is "sit and wait all day" duty. Tomorrow I will bring a good book. More about it on my blog:

I so agree with you. And yes, at the preliminary stages of the jury selection process, I was amazed at the negative attitudes and self-important views. I did understand people that were self employed or perhaps on comission only, but many people just spouted on and on about how the world couldn't go on without them. I wanted to remind them that three generations from now, their own relatives won't even remember their name . . . One was a cardiologist who had a hard time fitting through the door, his ego was so big. Mind you, he is part of a group of cardiologists, so others could have covered for him. But according to his view, the world would pretty much cease to exist without him out there in it for a week.
I certainly hope we can continue on Monday. I will be so sad if it is declared a mis-trial.

How exciting and I'm glad to hear of others who actually enjoy the process. I've been called on about 3 times but only one time I was chosen to be an actual juror. I was thrilled to be a part of it all and consider jury duty to be just that, our duty as a citizen of whatever city, county, state you live in. I think it is a privilege and an honor to be chosen to serve. So many think of it as a waste of time or they are "too important" to serve or "too busy". BAH! If it was their butts in that defendants chair, they'd be desperate for someone just like themselves to be chosen to hear their case.
Brenda, I hope you are able to see your case through to the end. Enjoy being part of one of our most precious "rights".

Today I showed up . . . ready for a long day and two jurers were sick, which meant we didn't have our 12 (only had one alternate) so we are "out of session" until Monday. I pray that at least one will be back on Monday so we have 12 or else it will be declared a "mis-trial." Selfishly, that would bother me as I now feel a "Vested interest" in this case and want to see it through to the end.

I have never actually ended up ON a jury. I did go in and was sent home after about 4 or 5 hours one time...the case ended up settled before the jury was all called..they hadn't got to me yet. And every other time I got a jury duty notice I was either single and couldn't possibly take time off work (never had the sort of job that paid for you to be gone) or was doing day care and couldn't ask all my daycare moms to take off work or find other arrangements either (still couldn't afford to miss that work either) maybe someday. My husband has been called before but never ended up being selected either. I hope you have fun Brenda. You know..you have a good attitude about it!! It is a sort of patriotic thing to do..and interesting I bet too.I hope to someday be able to do that. But here locally. I am still a homebody and have a cow to care for besides all the kids too!!

Well, I made the jury. I of course can't say anything about what the case is, but I am happy to say it is very interesting. I was shocked at how quickly it went from being chosen to being involved in the trial. We already heard opening statements and testimony from 6 witnesses. I am actually excited to be a part of this process. It probably sounds kind of weird, but there is something about serving on a jury that has a certain feel of patriotism to it. Can't wait to share once the trial is done! We farmgirls love to chat, you know!!

Yes, already yesterday there was a man next to me snoring away! LOL! I feel rather bad for those on trial though . . . if they have a jury full of sleepy heads. I am packing my "going to jury duty bag" today . . . got my book, some magazines, pita chips and hummus! And, if my girl friend and I get to continue to stay together, I have someone to visit. We should actually get assigned our judges today, so we will find out if we are together or not. We are two of the most conservative women I know, so some lawyers probably won't want us on a jury!
Well, I best run . . . gotta take the kiddos to school and then head to jury duty.

Jury duty is very interesting, I sat on a big one in the Spring. Now I did take an ocassional nap but wasnt worried because the judge did to but some of those lawyers was so boring. One of the ladies beside me did lots of napping one time she let out a little snore and I had to wake her up
