Ok, my daughters are planning to come for Thanksgiving, I did order our turkey from our local meat market Saturday, but my daughter just called and asked if she could bring a sweet potato souffle. My other daughter is planning to make her grandmotherts stuffing.. Man! Dh & I were planning to decorate the enterance to our farm & front porch for Halloween tommorrow.. Guess we should concentrate more on FALL?

Good. I am not crazy... I love the fall and change of sesons..The aromas of good things cooking..Family gathering....Thanksgiving turkey dinner, apples pumpkin pies...Its cold & crispy outside in the mornings.. and soon snow...and then Christmas.. I have never really been thrilled with Halloween, except the decorating....

not just hands being burned......last year i had 18 for thanksgiving...we made an extra table to join the one we have and had everyone seated at this newly created long table. (it looked great!) anyway, someone at the other end of the table was passing the basket of rolls across/above the candles and it caught fire---i mean the thing went up in flames! by the time i was sitting down to eat i was exhausted from working so hard for so many weeks---i just kind of sat there dumb-founded watching that fire until my sister in law finally picked it up and threw the thing outside in the driveway. anyway, in terms of thinking of thanksgiving in advance...i usually start thinking about it in july(!!) cause i buy plane tickets for the kids! it also feels like therapy to me, looking at cookbooks--making sure i have the favorite dish of who is here as well as trying to come up with maybe one dish that is new! have fun!!

If you have a way to set up buffet style, you wouldn't have to worry about that and your display would be more visible!

I leave everything lined up on my counter, everybody goes through the "line" and sits down. If they want seconds, they can get up to get them. It also saves from somebody burning their hands, spills and reaching over other's plates to pass items.

Not at all - go for it.

If the leaves would change faster, my girls & I were going to dip them in wax to preserve them. Not sure if I would want that on my table or not. Hot dishes+waxed leaves= big mess. But we're thinking it would make a nice centerpiece or otherwise.

Deb, I love that table decorating idea! Mind if I use it?

I love Thanksgiving too! It's my favorite holiday. I think because it was my Gram's favorite. I'm starting to plan here & there. Mostly where I'm going to sit everyone. I'd like to get some new tablecloths this year. Or do what my Mom did. She placed a plain ivory colored table cloth down, then put silk fall leaves down and put a clear plastic table cloth over it. It looks so nice!

My girls & I are decoration this week. We're so behind on our fall preparations. The leaves have hardly changed here.

I've already started doing some shopping. It makes it a lot easier on the wallet if I start buying a few months ahead! I LOVE thanksgiving!
