Yep, I need to find a 12 step program....for my addiction to pillow case making and it's all MaryJane Lee's fault! lol!
She had made me a sweet pillowcase outta fabric w/little tea pots design. Well I came across some fun kitty fabric and now I am hooked on pillow case making... they are 'sew' easy to make and the ideas for gifts are endless. So guess I'll be making loads of them for my family this Christmas....but don't tell them!
I posted a pic of one of them on my blog if you want to take a peek.

Heeheehee,,,,,, yep I think I qualify for the "13 Step" program...I have SOOO many UFO's...and yet I keep moving onto new ones...
As for the pattern, you can take any size pillow case, measure it & then add(cut wider) on 1/2 or 5/8" for the seams. (I stitched one side together added the band and then stitched the bottom & other side together.) As for the opening I cut a strip of fabric & folded it in 1/2length wise(I cut a 9"tallpiece & it was 4" after I fold +1" for seams). I stitched one side on folded down to approx 4" & the then on the inside folded the raw edge under & stitched it down. The extra wide ric rack was stitched over where the two fabrics were joined. Once you do the 1st one it all makes since. But you could just make it all one piece of fabric instead of adding on a different band of fabric. I was just experimenting w/this one. Lace would be cute to add or for those who can Tatt (firemama) you could tatt the edges.
Amanda's(firemama's) pillow cases are lovely. I have seen her work.(a pic of firemama stitching is posted on Pastblessings blog.) www.pastblessings.blogspot.com
I love rooting around the sale/dollar bins @ fabric shops and @ the Ben Franklin store their cool fabrics are on average $4.99 and as you can see this(cat print fabric) is a H. Miller fabric.
The ideas are endless,,,kid prints,~ themes like Western or Cats or flowers or what ever, it is fun to make a pillow case that fits the personality of the receipient. Hmmm...Christmas, any Holiday...Birthdays...
Sew Sew Sew.....gotta go!

Grace for the embriodered pillowcase swap, I made my own cases, I loved it. It was the first time. They DID turn out slightly bigger than I wanted them to but I didnt follow a patern. I'll have to dig out the pictures of them.

Yes, great comment Zan!!! I want to make pillowcases now but I am so anal that I need instructions..woe is me. I haven't sewn for years...MANY years. Do you just take an old pillowcase and make a pattern from that or just measure? I know...REALLY stupid question!!!! What a great idea for Christmas gifts, I agree. I have been researching economical (notice I did not say cheap!) Christmas and special occasion presents not only to stay within my budget which has shrunk, but also to earn that merit badge that has to do with making so many of your gifts. Two birds, one stone...although I really would never do that....kill a bird with a stone that is. As always, thanks for the inspiration!

You really think so, Zan? Ha! You're so funny. I never heard that one before about the 13th step. That's funny.

Hehee Guys. Well, NYC doesn't have those "olde southern sayings" but I do believe a local friend of mine may have been on to something when she said: "Girl, you got it so bad, they needed to make a 13th step for you!"....I do think that definitely applies to you guys! :)

Isn't that funny?! I have something of an addiction to making aprons and simple tote bags. They're really easy, too. In fact, I have so many aprons made now, that I'm going to have to create another website to do something with them!

You and I don't really need help. We're perfectly normal Just go with it and have fun!
