Hey girlies, sorry I have been gone sew long. I have been running around like crazy trying to get every thing put up in the kitchen and the garden taken care of before snow falls. We have a snow forcast this week. I really dont care if I ever see another squash at least this year. My pumpkin patch did not yeild as high a I had hoped. that is one squash that did not do so well. I am going to recheck my soil and take some organic measures this fall to bump up my crop. Third season bear hunt is in swing, hubby and I were busy the first week season one...with skinning. Bird season in swing and I am training the new pup too. Then now it is Bow season. Apple picking nearing an end. The price on the nylon 100 lb bags has doubled from last year. GRRR. Less profit for me. GRRR. The rain has kept much work from getting done. So when it all slows done I have a couple of quilt tops to finish putting together. I am looking forward to that. (finally me-time). Ok so gotta run. email me if you would like will check in later in the month. HUGS TO ALL. Kate

Hey girls. I'm from the southeastern part of MI near Lansing area. I love the UP and the Harrisville area too (we camp there in the summer). Wow Kate! You are up in the northern region! I can't believe you guys are doing snow already! Geez, that's one thing I'm just not ready for. I've been very lazy about even getting my garden plowed under and put to bed. It was down in the lower 30's over the weekend though and we had a heavy frost. I was out for the weekend doing a Relay for Life and it was a bit nippy. Dry though!!! (thank goodness). I've got a couple of aprons to do as well. I have a neice getting married soon (and a few grand neices/nephews on the way as well...) and I thought I'd make her an apron. She got a lot of nice kitchen things for her shower. -- Bears. Never hunted anything bigger than a rabbit/pheasant/squirrel. Actually, I never hunted just went along for the ride. I've skinned them out though. I've heard bear is very greasy and dark kind of meat. Do you use it just like beef? For as big and scruffy and scary as they seem, those rugs can be sooooo soft.

Just out of curiosity ,how much does a bear rug go for? and I just love the elenor burns book egg money quilts. I have made all but one of the squares to make that quilt. I will have to look up the apron pattern and make one too. Thise curtains sound soooo cute!!!! How do you like living in the UP? I had a lady write me one time and ask and all I could think of telling her was I hoped she liked snow. We don't get as much as you guys up there get. So I was really no help to her. Well thanks for the info on the bear rugs. Have always wanted one but my hubby isn't much for hunting a bear!!! hehehehehe Beverley

Hello fellow michigan farmgirl, Bev! Yes the hides do get sold on occassion. It depends on what the hunter wants. Most hunters will take the hide, after hubby skins it and packs it in ice and salt, to a taxidermist to be made into a rug. However some folks would rather get the money from the sale then to spend more money to have it tanned. We also have organizations here that will accept deer hides durring deer season. The procedes from those hides go to a 4-H program that teaches school children safe hunting. I finished my kitchen curtains today! yeee haaa! I made them from Reproduction Feed Sacks and 1930's Reproduction Material. I put praire Points on the bottom edge and they sure look cute. Now I have started on the apron pattern from Elenor Burns' Egg Money Quilt book. Very easy and cute. I am totally into sewing all these Depression Era type home things right now. Ok so gotta run and will check in later. HUGS!
