Right now in Idaho it is bear and cougar season. We are a, "You kill it, you eat it," family. DH and I keep going around and around about eating cougar. His boss' wife wants him to kill one that keeps coming around their place.
I cannot imagine eating a cat. DH says EVERYONE at his work who hunts, eats cougar, made into smokies. Smokies are sausages that are smoked and are the manly food of choice here in North, North Idaho.

I HAVE eaten cougar and I thought it was really good! My oldest son is a big hunter and they cooked cougar while we were staying with them a couple of years ago - I didn't think about it much, just tried it and was pleasantly surprised! I thought it was sort of pork-like. He also shot a wild boar while we were there and we ate that too. I liked the cougar better. My DIL roasted what we ate while we were there - I'm not sure what they did with the rest of it - but he has gotten several cougars and he's not one to waste game, so I"m sure they made good use of it.

Turn it into dog food Or, like an old sheep, have it made into sausage. If you don't like it, feed it to the pets.

Something tells me that it doesn't taste like chicken. I told DH that if he wants to cook it here, he had better buy a hot plate for on the porch! It seems like it would taste musky. I googled it like Alee, and some say it tastes like pork. I did see lots of sites talking about trichinosis. Yikes!

We are the same way, Trish. If we're not going to eat it, we don't hunt it. I only know one person who's eaten cougar and he's a Fish & Game officer. I asked him how he liked it and he shrugged his shoulders and said it was just ok and doesn't plan to hunt another one.

I don't know why, but it just seems "off" to me to eat another carnivore. But that's just me. If the boss's wife is having a problem with this cat coming around and dogs don't scare it off and nobody really wants to shoot it (with a valid license and tag), then she should call Fish & Game. They'll come and remove the cat and transport it elsewhere.

Well, considering they are a carnivore, their meat is going to taste a lot different than a herbivore or even an omnivore.

However I have googled to try and see what it tastes like and I it seems there is a lot of positive reviews. It could always be one of those things where you try it once to see if you like it.
