Hello everyone! I was just curious (I don't even know if I put this in the correct place) if any of you lovely ladies collect/build/make dollhouse miniatures in addition to your farmgirl ways? I know miniatures don't really have anything to do with farm stuff, but I recently began addicted to the hobby myself. I have a beautiful dollhouse and I have fun collecting miniatures and furnishing the house to look realistic. I tie-in my farmgirl theme. I like country style miniatures and such. Anyways, I would love to meet other farmgirls who love or collect dollhouse miniatures as well.
My focus is on 1:12 scale miniatures but I like them all! I will be at the Seattle dollhouse miniature show tomorrow (saturday) at the seattle center. Let me know if you will be there! Have a great day to all of you!!!

Thanks, Linda, Chelsey. I have thought about making another one, but I have so many other projects going on, that I just don't dare take on another one! At least not yet! You all are so inspiring, though. Maybe this winter? We'll see.

I know, the hobby room is sooooo cool! It looks so realistic and perfect! I want it to be life-size so I can live there lol! It has so many tiny little details. I'm glad you enjoyed looking at the pictures.
I will be putting pictures of my dollhouse up soon, so I'll let you know when I do that.

Karin, I just love your house-in-the-wall. The kitchen is especially cool!
Laura, you could make your own log cabin. Remember the one I told you about that I had made many years ago with dowels? You could do that, too.
Ok, so here's a description of the one I made. It was cheap but I thought it looked cool. I built a log home (too big to be called a cabin) using 1/2 inch dowels. I bought popscicle sticks and cut the round ends off for plank flooring and the doors. I cut up black sand paper to look like shingles and glued them to the roof which was removable as this was a one story home. I used battery operated mini lights through out the house and made most of the light fixtures from jewelry parts. I made the plumbing fixtures from modeling clay. The furniture was made from popscicle sticks, styrofoam and square toothpicks. I used the square toothpicks to make a butcher block counter top. I used some small pebbles that I had collected from Bear Lake to surround the bottom of the outside of the house. I picked apart styrofoam so it looked like bushes and painted them green. I made a porch swing from popscicle sticks and toothpicks and a necklace chain. I made the curtains and made the pictures I hung on the walls from small pictures cut out of a magazine. My favorite part of it was the hot tub I had made in the back deck. I cut out styrofoam so there was a hexagon shaped hole in it and set in below the deck (it actually held the deck up), trimmed the top edge with popscicle sticks and filled the tub with Elmer's blue glue. It took a lot of glue but, when it finally dried hard, all the bubbles were frozen into it and it really looked like bubbling water! I loved that part.
I wish I had taken some serious pictures of it, but that was before digital cameras and I don't have it anymore :(

Oh, my gosh. Chelsey- you must have felt like you had died and gone to tiny heaven!! I think the hobby room is my favorite also (I want it life-size), but the little garden house with the rabbit is just so darn cute and the orange tree with the woman's face....amazing. Thank you for sharing those pictures. Now I want to go make tiny things all day. :)

Karin, I just got a chance to look at your Home-In-The-Wall. How wonderful!
I'm definitely inspired to work on dollhouse stuff this winter. Just need some space...
Laura, I've long wanted to build a log cabin miniature. Seems like it just can't be all that hard. (Famous last words?)
I don't know how I forgot to mention this...when I was about 10-12, I made a miniature Seneca longhouse. If I had the space for something like a model railroad layout, I would love to make a forest scene with an Indian village at one end and a settler's cabin at the other.

I have a dollhouse at my parent's house because once I had children I didn't have the room anymore. I really should sell it. But I don't think I could get rid of my miniatures, they are just too cute!

I love dollhouses and miniatuires.
I have a plastic canvas pattern for dollhouse and all the furniture, people and even cars for the people to sit in.
I would say the people are about 1 1/2 inches high and the 2 story house about a ft high. I haven't made it all but maybe you gals will inspire me!

Oh I would SOO Love a dollhouse! I have tons of dollhouse miniature books, old catalogs and such, etc.... Right now I have no time to delve into that particular hobby, but I am hoping that one of these days that will change. I am also interested in making my own dollhouse DOLLS. I already have the books for the clothing patterns to FIT them!!! Just got to find the time to get busy on it all. ~~ Tracy

I have an old dollhouse in my parents attic! It was so much fun to decorate it...should set it up again!
My Grandmother used to work in a miniature store when I was young....I would love to go in and look at all of the different furniture and little things...trying to figure out what I could buy with a few dollars! She and I put carpet and wallpaper in my dollhouse. Most of my birthday and Christmas gifts from her were things that i "needed" to complete the rooms in the house. It was so exciting for me to get that stuff!
My Grandma made room scenes(I have a little box of a baby's room from when I was born...she even put a mini picture frame with my baby pic in it)... she would also make little figurines out of fimo. |

I used to be really into this stuff when I was a kid. Of course, I had no money to put into it but I made miniature furniture out of wood scraps and sticks from the yard. I made food from a paste made by crushing white bread with elmer's glue (sounds gross, but I actually heard or read about it somewhere as a legit thing to do).
My best things, as I remember were the family portraits I painted (with a toothpick) and the string of dried apples that I made. I cut tiny bits of real apple and dried them on a windowsill, then strung them on a thread. Boy, I wish I still had that kind of time!
I found an old dollhouse on the curb a while back and I'm slowly fixing it up. Haven't worked on it since this time last year, but I'm hoping to get it back down from the attic again soon. It's a victorian cottage, which is unfortunate because I'd rather be playing with colonial or early american stuff. But I feel like I have to do right by my find. |

Chelsey- This is the post on my old blog of the House-In-The-Wall.
It's a long story of how it came about, from a dream when I was 10. :) We had a fire in 200, adn with the walls open, I was able to build it in before the contractor sealed it up!!
I make my food from Fimo clay, and use clear nail polish to seal it. Mmmm, tasty. I've made everything from cakes and pies to teeny-weeny Starlight mints and candy corn. I think I posted pics here of close-ups. I will have to search them out for you.

Hi Karin! Yes, that would definitely be a long drive lol! So your dollhouse is actually in the wall??? That sounds really great! Do you have any pictures? I am going to take pictures of my minis soon so I can post them online and share them. It's so much fun! I really want to get into making miniature food-that's one of my favorite minis to collect, but I don't know how to start? What do you use? I am knitting a miniature afghan for my dollhouse bed right now. It's a light powdery pink color. What "style" minis do you like?
I am going to try to take pictures at the Seattle miniature show so I will post those as well!

Oh, me! I have a dollhouse in my living room wall and I have made all of the food for it, reupholstered furniture to make it more my style, wallpapered it with paper I bought in England...Yep, I am a tiny stuff addict!! I wish I was in Washington to go to the show, but I think its a bit of a drive from here. ;)
