Fantastic photos! You captured the hummingbird beautifully, without a blur. My neighbor has a Momosa (sp?) tree that has pink fuzzy blooms, which attracts the hummingbirds. I would sit and just stare at the tree and would always find one flitting about the flowers. I don't see too many of them and it's always a treat when I find one. They are so sweet! Your patience paid off....thank you for sharing!

What wonderful pictures! We forgot to put our hummingbird feeder out this year...ratz... but they still come to a big bush my neighbor has and I also saw one sipping nectar from a tomato plant blossom which surprised me since I know they prefer red or pink flowers. They are soooo cute.

here's the plant data info:
it is hardy to zones 8a to 11.
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/2331/

my neighbor has a tree of it that is about 5 ft taller than their house roof line.
ours is about 12 ft. tall already..we planted ours about 5 yrs ago when it was just a tiny thing about a foot tall..it didn't take it long to become tall and oh about 6 ft wide.
It is very nice for the hummingbirds and the monarchs and gulf fritillary butterflies enjoy it too.

Thank you for your patience, and for sharing the pictures. I've never seen a bottle brush tree, but it has the most appropriate name, doesn't it? I thought for a moment that it really was a bottle brush you had painted red! Is that one of those beautiful plants that only thrives in Florida?

it was actually quite interesting to watch the activity at the bottle brush tree..I saw a unique system of how it worked in that short hour of watching.
First the hummingbird would come to the tree and circle it for about 3-5 minutes at the most going all over the tree..then it would dart away up into the pine trees and the wax myrtles...as soon as it left..the wasps and native pollinators would dive in very quickly..then they'd hurry and dart away..and as soon as they did the moths and butterflies would dart in...if there were any butterflies left when the hummer quickly darted back in for his/her turn it would chase them away...this cycle kept repeating itself about every 5 minutes as I was watching the tree...quite fascinating actually how it had a little harmony/system going there.
Glad you all enjoyed the photos. I had fun watching this little bird...and just wanted to share it with my friends.

Awwwww...I just love those little visitors and I have feeders out for them every year. I thought they had all gone for the year, but the other day a couple showed up. They were in mid air looking into my back door as if to say "Hey, we want more food out here!"
