Posted - Sep 20 2008 : 12:05:29 PM Hello Kansas Farmgirls, I just finished reading'Pioneer Women, Voices from the Kansas frontier' by Joanna L Stratton. I have read several of this type of book and found this to have a very good historic presence. It has stories from women who lived the start of this frontier state. I would like to share this with as many of you as possible. Let me know if you are interested in reading this book and I will send it to you with your promise to send it on to another Kansas 'sister'. Postage is $2.58 book rate and each 'sister' would be responsible for mailing it on to the next one. I will make a list of those who are interested and they can email me their address. Hope I am not forgetting anything, never done this before. Heh,heh. BOOK GONE........

Posted - Sep 20 2008 : 2:44:38 PM I found that book in an old musty, crowded downtown bookstore in my hometown Springfield, Il, about five years ago. I have read it again and again! Isn't is fascinating????? I really enjoyed reading about the pioneer relationships with the native Indians. Often it would be the women, because the men were far away in the fields all day. The Indians were very nosy, and would poke their heads in the cabin windows, completely taking the inhabitants by surprise. How funny, but also frightening that must have been!

Posted - Sep 20 2008 : 2:13:07 PM Yes, it sure does. I did not know we had a reading room. Guess I should have posted there. I always thought I would love to live in that time, hardships and all. But this was an eyeopener for me. Much harder than one can ever imagine. Sod homes, for pete's sake!! Unreal, one must have been dirty all the time. Not for me.
