I spent the day washing this years wool. It is still drying, but it is done! Yah I wanted to get at it while I could still wash and dry outside. I still have some of last years wool to finish carding and spin. I hope to get some stash built up, so I can sit and knit this fall and winter. It sure is alot of work to do it yourself! But I enjoy it, I think
Glad I only have 2 sheep, I don't know what I would do with more!

Sarita, I have 2 cross breds. Shetland, and Border Leicester. The wether is white, and the ewe is black ( well sort of black, changing colors ) I got them from a local person. I don't know much about wool, but when I go from spinning the black, to the white, the white seems soooo much nicer, and almost silkier.
I enjoyed looking at your blogspot too! Sure would like to come over and see what you do. Weaving looks like it would be fun.
We sheared ourselves this year. So not the greatest job, but it was hard to get someone to stop and shear, with only 2. I need to learn how to skirt, and card better. Well spin better too, but have been self taught. I have fun, and I like my yarn. That is what counts in my book.

Michele, what breed of sheep is your wool from?

You'll have to post some pictures for us to see what you've made with your own wool. Good luck on cleaning this years wool too!

Do you dye your wool or leave it natural? I'm sure your scarves & shawls will be well loved by those you give them too!

I like to knit and crochet. I hope to get some scarves made for gifts this year, some shawls maybe. Trying to find patterns that work well with my bulkyer homespun yarn. Though I am getting better.
It is alot of work making the yarn, from "scratch". That is why I am so excited to get some stash built up, so I can work with my own yarn. It is fun seeing it go from the sheeps back, to a nice scarf!

Congratulations on finishing washing last years wool! Any ideas on what you will make with all of it?

Michele, I understand your sense of accomplishment. Having 50 ewes, I finally just bagged up my wool for the wool pool next summer--have had enough wool washing this year. I dyed a bunch and have enough to card for a lifetime probably but still I continue to prepare more! Having another set of hands would help, huh? Enjoy.

That sounds very interesting. I love to work with my hands. I crochet only. I wish I were there to help.
