Posted - Sep 04 2008 : 4:47:16 PM Hi Karen-
Yes! It is actually quite comfortable! My dad hand made it for me as a graduation present! The wood is worm-tunneled juniper so it has a neat pattern!

Posted - Sep 04 2008 : 4:39:33 PM Alee, your sewing room looks so cozy and special! And I love the idea of putting the books in the washtub with the quilt so you're prepared to seize the moment when you have a chance to read. And the rustic chair - is it as comfortable as it looks?

I would suggest sewing lots of insulating blankets/drapes to put up. I am going to make some for the windows that will seal around the windows using velcro. They will then be able to roll up and secure with velcro during the day.
Also a few nice thick rugs will help keep things warmer.
I am going to also invest in a nice space heater for the area. Nora's room has the one we bought 2 winters ago. It was abot $60 from Costco, but is very nice and can heat a good portion of the house by itself. We might actually buy a smaller one for Nora's room and the big one will be in the sewing room.

Posted - Sep 04 2008 : 1:21:19 PM Alee you sewing room is too cute! Seeing as how it is a sun room what types of tips can you offer for keeping it warm. I just moved all my sewing and quilting stuff into a room that is terribly cold in the winter. It is an unexpected room under my front porch. So it is all cement! I know you are always filled with great ideas. I am going to try and get it painted this weekend because it is stark white right now and very uninspiring.
I love Russian Sage! I have tons of it our in my garden. Is your dried in the bucket or is it actually growing in a pot easily?

Posted - Sep 04 2008 : 12:13:19 PM Things are really starting to shape up now! Here is about 3/4 of the sewing room all put together. I still have a few things to organize and find a place for, but this is basically what it is going to look like for the time being!

Posted - Sep 04 2008 : 06:55:28 AM In one of the aluminum tubs I have my books since I am sorely lacking a bookcase right now. That is the side covered with the Farmgirl Quilt. Ready to grab a quilt and good book if a wintery day comes along!
In the other half I have a Peace Lilly, an Asparagus Fern, an Aloe plant, and the purple flowered plant is a Russian Sage. It smells just like lavender to me though!
Soon I will be pulling my curly Willow in so it can grow in the room all winter long. I am also going to be switching a lot more around. Maybe next time I will get it clean enough I can take more than 2 steps backwards and show you the rest of the room! LOL

Posted - Sep 04 2008 : 05:15:54 AM Or are those herbs in that tub? I love that window, too. I recognize that quilt. It's such a beautiful quilt. Very nice, Alee. Can hardly wait to see the rest of your house.
