I spent most of the morning and early afternoon Saturday writing letters to Grandma, my best friend, and my old college roommate. I hurried them to the Post Office so they'd go out A.S.A.P. Guess what I got in the mail today? ALL 3 LETTERS BACK, marked "Postage Due!" Apparently, the stationery I used is an unacceptable shape (the envelopes are square, not rectangular) and can't be put through the computerized reading machine, so I have to pay a 20 cent surcharge! Grrrrr.... No wonder letter writing is a dying art! How frustrating!

I used to work in a college mailroom, and we had a handy little printout that showed the outline of an oversized envelope vs. a regular business sized one. If there was any doubt about a card, we could just hold it up to the pattern and see if it fit within the lines. If not, we knew that it would need extra postage. I think Dorothy the Queen of the Mailroom printed it out from the USPS website, so you might want to try there.

When I worked at Hallmark, many brides were bummed because it put them over budget, and it seems like the most beautiful invites we carried were square.

That just stinks! You can't even use nice stationery anymore without paying more? How do you know how much more, unless you actually make a trip to the post office to mail it? That's just no fun.

Oh No! I have had that happen to me too! Only sometimes I receive a letter and have to fork out extra just for them to give me the letter because postage is due!
