Man!!!! We are getting rain from Gustav today and it is coming down in buckets! I am mentoring a first year teacher and we had a workshop today that let of way early. Ive been home since 1:45 just reading and listening to the rain. Can't even watch TV cause the rain is blocking the satallite signal!!! We are set to get up to 7 inches by this evening!

Bonnie- Can you go out and water the lawn and such really well before the rains come? That always helps my soil "prep" for rain when it is coming. It seems to be able to absorb more water if it is already damp... I call it the Shammi concept. You know, how you have to get a car shammi wet before it will absorb water off your car?

Maybe that way more water will go into your water table around your house than into storm drains and water systems?

Gustav is dumping rain on us today. Good day to stay inside for sure! I'm going to make some chocolate nut mini muffins, do some knitting, and maybe some housework if the mood strikes me.

Know what cha mean!!!!! Fay brought us 23, yes 23 inches of rain in two days. Our rain gauge holds five inches and we emptied it four times!!!! I have never seen so much rain, and am so thankful that Florida has sandy soil - it sinks in easier!

Hope you are getting to dry out today! Stay safe.

We are getting the tail end of Gustav here in KS also. Plus a cool front from the N.W. So we are getting rain and it is 60 degrees.

"They" say we should get someting by way of Hanna this weekend.

It would be nice.

Although around here too, the ground gets saturated prety quickly, then we are left w/ a soppy mess for a few days.

We're expecting rain this weekend too, but not from Gustav-Maryland is expecting Hanna to greet us on Saturday. Weathermen are trying to predict the tract and the amounts 1-2" I'll take over 7 inches anyday. The ground is so hard and dry though, that we're expecting alot of runoff!
I'm thinking about all you gals who are dealing with Gustav and you're in my prayers!

Rain's no fun when you get more of it than the ground can absorb all at once. It might not even look like it's raining that hard, but when it keeps going all day long strange things can happen to the roadways and low areas.

I remember trying to find my way to a brand new job on the day that Philadelphia was getting the remnants of Hurricane Floyd in 1998. There were roads closed and cars washing away and everything. I had just moved to the city, and I didn't know my way around at all. I gave up on getting to the job and it took me 3 hours to find my way home through the detours. The worst part was that my car had practically no floorboards, and every time I went through a big puddle I would feel the carpet ballooning up against my feet...I was afraid I would hear a big POP! and the car would fill up with water!

Somebody else can take Gustav, please. I don't need the rain that badly.

It's hard to imagine now rain and such heat at the same time. Here, when it rains, it's cold.

I remember when I was a kid back East and the rains we got on an 80 degree day was just fun. We'd all run out and play in it like it was God's garden sprinkler!

Wow Julie! That is a lot of rain! At least you have a good excuse to cuddle up with a comfy blanket and a good book! Do you have a fireplace? That is my favorite! A crackling fire- rain or snow coming down outside, and a good book!

Rain sounds heavenly to me. Maybe not quite that much. We're supposed to see some rain from Gustav this week. I sure hope it doens't fizzle out.

Wow! I remember a big storm where we got 4 inches in one day, and I can't imagine anything more. I'm glad you don't have to travel in it. Stay dry!
