You gals would not believe the fiasco I've gone through the past week with the phone company. First, the phone and internet go off last Wed afternoon. Why? don't know. I call the phone company and they tell me they'll fix the problem by the end of the next day. Thursday comes and goes and nothing. Friday, I call again, and the lady says "I assure you your service will be restored by 5:00 today". 5:00 comes and goes and still nothing. I call the after hours number Friday evening and I'm told that all I can do is put in for a repair ticket and no one is available until Tuesday. Tuesday?! What have I been doing each time I called them to report the problem?! She told me nothing more could be done until Tuesday. Very unsympathetic.

So, in the meantime, dd is trying to reach us with news from school, dh is waiting for a call from his doctor for the surgery he's waiting for and all the time there is nothing they can do.

Tuesday: still nothing by lunch time so I figured I better call them again to make sure they were going to make it up here. I'm told, sorry, no one can make it up there today, it will have to be tomorrow. I nearly come unhinged on the guy explaining how I have a kid away at college trying to reach me, a husband waiting for an important phone call from his doctor, etc. He seemed indifferent to my problem and just repeated that there was no one available to come up. I feel very frustrated at this point. About a half hour later, dh calls me and says the phone company just called him and the phone is now working. They found the problem and it was at their end. Yay! finally fixed - NOT! Another half hour later, dh comes into the courthouse and wants to know what is going on? He's getting all these calls for the court at home! I had just hung up with a man who had said the court number was a bad number because he just called it 4 times and got a private residence. I immediately put 2X2 together and realized the phone company had messed up something in repairing our home phone and in the process made one of the court lines inoperable from the court!

I call the phone company again. The woman says she sees the problem. It looked like someone had put a forward on our business phone to ring at our home. I said this is not OUR business, this is the court and this can't happen. She said she reversed it and it would take effect in 2-3 minutes. Good. Ok, so if you guys can make the court's phone number ring at my house, why can't you make MY phone number ring at my house? She would look into that and call back before 5. OK. She never called back, the court number continued to ring at my house. Frustration building...

I answered a call for the court at 7:15 this morning at home. So, I called the phone company again this morning, ranted about this whole mess and this time, the woman I spoke to actually got it all fixed! She said a forward was never put on the court's phone but she never did tell me what exactly happened. Doesn't matter now...I'm back!

Lisa I feel your pain....

For the past three weeks we have had rolling mass area loss of phone service. A week before the DNC I was down for five days and then it has been every three days the phones go for four days and then back up. Since I only have one phone line that also means no internet. I have spent more time in town reporting the service issues because I love their way of thinking - in order to report you have no phone you have to have a working phone. Then in order to report you have to leave another phone number (what are you to use when your whole area is out and you can not call out to let someone else know the phone company may be calling them?) Then I love it - they stated "They did not know what was all the trouble and that they hope this did not inconvience me - Heck NO - Who needs their phone of computer for three weeks??? Not Me!!! I think I am going to work on my physic abilities - seems more reliable..

I just can't explain what all those other people were thinking or doing. I do have the gal's name that finally got it all fixed. I think I will send a kudos to them for her. But a big thumbs-down to all the rest I talked to! The woman I talked to on Friday evening even told me "well, I guess you'll just have to use your cell phones". I told her if we had cell service up here this wouldn't be such a problem. Dead silence.

Anyway, it's done now. I guess I just felt the need to do a little ranting. Thanks for listening to me!

Good night. What a hassle. I'm glad you're back though!! My parents had digital phone service (Vonage). Their cable went out and the phone went alomg with it. It took over a week to get the whole thing sorted. In the meantime, I got them back on a regular land line. The last thing two older people need is no phone service.
Ya gotta love technology.

Oh my gosh! Lisa, I would think that this would warrant a complaint to the upper managers of that phone company or even to the FCC. I understand plain human error, but the blatant disregard to fix a problem that was on _their_ end and then them mixing up the phone numbers! Yikes! They at the very least owe you a letter of apology!

That's crazy. If you have her name, give kudos to the last rep at the phone company. Glad to see you back.
