isn't this a cutie .. and a far cry from the 'klunkers' we rode in the 40's and 50's! i don't remember the color .. but i do remember the style and JOY of my first tricycle (which i shared with my sister) .. i also remember her first GREEN SCHWINN two-wheeler .. which i was still too small for! i even have a 1940's tricycle sittin' in my garden here at the farm!

i jus' got the above one for sofia for her birthday .. it 'collapses' so it can be easily transported if you want to go to the park or take it on vacation! it has a cute little basket and helmet too.

we didn't wear 'helmets' back then either .. but i do believe that is very wise. surprizingly we don't have a helmet law here in kentucky .. but the death rate from motorcycle accidents is higher than in most states with helmet laws. i know there is a petition out there trying to get a helmet law enacted here in kentucky .. you better believe hank and i signed it (now .. ef'fen there are any gurlfenz reading this and it bunches your britches .. you are welcome to say so .. jus' don't be 'mean-spirited' about it!!!) that is MY belief. we have a neighbor who's son was in an accident last year and is irreparably brain damaged because he landed on his head (the doctors said he would have been so much better off if he'd been wearing a helmet). and just the past couple weeks a young man and a young woman both died LOCALLY in motorcycle accidents .. neither were wearing helmets.)

A SECOND THOUGHT: now gurlfrenz .. i gotta' warn ya' .. i'm feeling a little 'itchy on the trigger' cuz' it seems lately that when someone kindly speaks their opinion on some things .. they get zinged by a few farmgirls.

if you read my postings .. you know that i'm a 'nice guy' .. and that i love uplifting, positive, happy postings .. i also LOVE interesting, intelligent conversations too .. on ANY subject. i will give MY opinions from time to time (as above about Helmet Laws) .. and if you have a differing view (lordy .. this all just started out to be a picture of the cute little trike i got for my grand-daughter .. but sadly .. i had to read and re-read and re-re-read it again and again ... to make sure i had not overtly been too outspoken in the way i expressed my personal belief. now that, to me, is a sad thing!

anyhoooooooo ... isn't this fancy little trike FUN! xoxo

Oh, yes...I remember my first trike! It was red, and I got in trouble for riding it down the street one day. My mother was so mad, lol! It was early and no one was up, so I just went for a ride

Christmas 1946 - A little red tricycle; they were all metal back then. I was out riding it that afternoon and the neighborhood bully took the handlebars off and ran off with them. Dad fashioned me new ones out of a piece of pipe.

I remember my first big wheel. Actually me and my sis had to share it. I don't know how she did it but she always managed to run over he lil pinky finger everytime she rode that thing.

I remember the first trikes at our house when I was little (they were shared by me, my sister and brother..we are very close in age)....there were two...one without a seat and one without handlebars....pretty tricky but we rode them all over anyhow!!!! I wonder where they came from?
I think my kids are the only ones in town who wear bike helmets on a regular basis! Where we lived before there was a helmet law and kids actually tease my kids about wearing helmets here. BUT...they have learned to be thick skinned about that or not ride their bikes at all..since if their Mama finds out they even rode one block without a helmet on they will be grounded from using their bikes for a week. They don't even try it ...not worth it to them! My oldest son, who raced mountain bikes when he was in high school, had a friend who was only saved from brain injury by a helmet and that sold me...they may not be cool or cute...but helmets are important.
That is a cute trike you got your grandbaby Frannie!!
