There is this AWESOME pizza restaurant that my hubby and I love. We have to drive about 70 miles to get there. We have been going about once a month for two years or so. It is small and kind of a "hole in the wall" and is owned by a guy named Tommy who is an old hippy type. He's got long hair in a pony tail, listens to classic rock and Bob marley and plans to vote libertarian. His grown sons all work there and they make the best pizza I have had outside of Italy!!!!!! When we go in the know us by name and everyone working will come by our table for a few minutes to chat. They give us the "(my last name)" Special which is a combo my hubby and I came up with! It feels like family and the drive out there helps it feel like a mini vacation. It doesn't matter what kind of stress I have had in my life, when I get to Tommy's Pizza it ALL goes away even if just for the hour and a half we are in there. And I always leave with a new outlook on my worries.

We ate there tonight!!!!!

Sometimes puttering around in the garden is the perfect fix for me. I love to look at plants really closely and admire the way they grow and all their details. I guess examining the world on such a small level helps keep the larger world in perspective. Also, I agree with Karin, exercise always seems to do wonders for my stress level, especially running. I think that running helps my head as much as it helps my heart.

I'm with you Jessie! Just cleaning and moving things around can make me oh so happy! Susan

I clean! I tackled the crummy nasty jobs when I need to get rid of stress. The yuckier and harder they are the better. I can't put my most worstest stress into it and most times when I am done the stress has left off even if just a little and whatever job I did, got my all.

Always a cup of tea, retail therapy, or DH will watch Owen, and I get to go to the library all by myself.

I'll knit or read or take a nice loooong bubblebath and put lit candles in the bathroom, some tea to drink and soothing music.

I go for a walk when I'm so stressed I'm about in tears. I make sure I have plenty of time and just walk until I can't go on any further then I turn around walk back the same way. By the time I get home, I'm too tired to worry about what I'm worried about. For normal stresses I pick up either a crochet hook or a knitting needle and make something easy like a dish cloth. That way I don't have to concentrate too hard on the project. And a lot of times I just crawl up on my bed in the afternoon and watch TV or read or nap. Something about being in my bedroom on my bed in the middle of the afternoon that is quit relaxing.

When I feel stressed, I go out and talk to my horse Lexy, she's a good listener. Or I work on one of my craft projects or knit. I love to sit in my rocking chair and rock, while I'm knitting, while watching TV with my husband. Real relaxing.
BarefootGoatGirl Posted - Aug 28 2008 : 1:22:58 PM
i knit or write. both activities help me focus and unravel what is really important at the moment. for me, stress usualy comes from confusion clearing my head does wonders for my mood.

Just going outside works for me. Check to see if anything is ripe in the gardens, dead head some flowers, take the chickens some cold water, Then!! (close your eyes organic farmgirs) Ride around the yard on my lawn mower with 2 gal sprayers of round up and bug spray!! I can come back in the house feeling better. Wonder what that says about my personality that Killing something makes me feel better?

Exercise and yoga. I know, it does not sound like a de-stressing technique, but for me, it works wonders. :) My next favorite thing is to sit and watch the hens. They truly make me happy.

I will pick up a book or knit or crochet. Anything to keep my mind on what I am doing and off of everything else. If there is one thing that I love in my life, it is calm days.

I go out and visit with Mona, my cow. It always makes me feel calm. Or just watching the chickens. If I need a few minutes of quiet (noise stresses me out worse than anything) the critters always help.

I sit and practice the piano for hours. Or, work on a crochet project. Both of those things just mellow me out!

I knit. Knitting helps me deal with stress big time. before we moved from Ca, I would go sit on the deck and watch the goaties. I miss them.

I feel that as I get older I'm getting less stressed out on the small stuff. If things don't get done as planned here on the homestead its not a big deal. Work is easier when not stressed out. Worry does no good, and thinkin of stuff that might happen is such a waste of energy.

Finding that the simple things in life is what really makes me happy which in turn makes me less stressful. Having my family around, healthy and happy is up there with my happyness. Going back to the things I use to do, learning new things that I always wanted to learn. Keeping busy. Not having to go here and there and timed appointments. Oh I still have them with clients but its not like it use to be, and maybe its just me changing. Just not stressing out.

Walks in our woods makes for a good feelin. Listening to the news does not. Knitting and thinking of the person who is going to get the knitted object is peaceful. And I think the most of all is the Blessings one gets throughout our life time and thinking of those things is probably one of the best way's I deal with the day to day stuff that comes along.

I'd like to hear some of your books findings on stress free techniques . I'll be looking forward to your posting KY Frannie
Thanks a bunch

I read. I like to put myself somewhere else when I am having a hard time or just dealing with lots of stress. Also I seem to go puruse the fabric store, something about the smell of fabric calms me,lol; )
