Posted - Aug 26 2008 : 2:44:54 PM Wow! My mom forwarded me an article to help me save money on text books this semester:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26161407/
The best deal by far has been www.chegg.com
Not only can I _rent_ the book instead of buying, but they plant trees for every book rented!! http://www.chegg.com/EcoFriendly
How cool is that?!

If the book is partnered with an online program that has an access code- a lot times you can rent the text book portion and go to the website of the online part to buy just online access. I did that with a Math Course that had the book online as well. $30 instead of $150!!

Posted - Aug 28 2008 : 05:29:16 AM My son had to get his books last night. Unfortunately the school has gotten "smart" and they won't accept the book unless it has an access code with it. We did find one used book & instead of a math book got the math lab which we were told has the book online. The employee at the book store told us about that as they were out of the used book. It would have been $150 new otherwise. Thank God he told us about that. He said we wouldnt haven been able to sell the book back either if we bought new because the school would be going to a new book next year. So he spent $230 & still doesnt have all of his books! Crazy isnt it. They really make a lot of $ off of these books!

Posted - Aug 27 2008 : 12:15:08 PM Wow, I just checked out the website, I like the idea of renting the books. Someimes I get the urge to go back to school to get my RN, I'm an LPN. But I'm 56 so maybe I should just be happy with being an LPN. If the urge ever gets strong at least I now know where I can find books to rent. Thanks Alee! |

Posted - Aug 27 2008 : 06:01:35 AM My daughter is an LPN and is taking classes working to get her RN. This semester she is taking Anatomy and Physiology 1 at our community college and her books were $350!! For one course!! Needless to say we were looking online to get them cheaper - I will definitely tell her about this source! |

Posted - Aug 26 2008 : 9:34:13 PM Alee: I rented the books, too.. Lots of savings there. Unless it was a book I wanted to keep for my major. Did your school start yet? Good luck and study hard. Marly |

Posted - Aug 26 2008 : 7:12:36 PM I figure if I decide I want to buy any of my books- I can still do that, but this way I can see how useful they are through the semester before I buy! :D

Posted - Aug 26 2008 : 3:16:49 PM You're welcome! I saved my bill by about $300! I am excited! I just wish they had my math book. I am going to donate the math book after the semester is over so that someone can rent it next semester. :D

Posted - Aug 26 2008 : 3:04:47 PM This is fantastic! My daughter is already on campus, but next semester is right around the corner! This beats buying and then "selling back" to the school bookstore! Thanks Alee!
