i read the most wonderful article in the current National Geographic magazine on the family life of elephants! it was wonderful .. they have many traits that we humans do! (HA! except .. they are a little smarter .. when boys turn into teens .. they are kicked out to go live with other teenage boy elephants!)

it took me back to our wonderful trip to africa .. even quoted cynthia moss .. an incredible elephant researcher who we had the pleasure of spending some time with at her 'elephant camp' in kenya. she is amazing .. several of her films have been on wildlife nature shows. the man the article is about is actually her 'mentor'. he was attacked and thrown into the air by a large elephant and almost gored to death! i remember when we drove into the midst of a family of elephants and they charged us .. (our guide assured us they were simply 'smelling' us and 'welcoming' us! strange .. but i was not the least bit afraid). africa was one of the highlights of my life.

i took these two (ha! along with over a THOUSAND other photos while on 'safari'!)

if you have access to the current issue .. be sure to check it out. xo

Oh! I am so jealous! Elephants are my very favorite. They do have a lot of the same traits that humans do. What great pictures.

That is one of my dreams, to go to Africa to visit the elephants. There is an elephant sanctuary in Tennessee that takes volunteers. Wonder if my hubby will like a vacation there?
