and I got burned again! My husband wanted this WWII book about the 8th airforce for his birthday--it's a European issue, and the only place to get it was in Poland (hello, no offense, but I'm not putting my credit card number on some website in POLAND), and of course..some bookseller on Ebay. Price wasn't much difference, so I bought it in the "buy it now" on August 8th. Still no book. I asked the seller when it was shipped and he said December 8th!!! Um...hopefully he knows who the heck I am..then he said that I should check down at the post office to see if it's "lying around" down there.

I asked for a tracking number, he requested my zip code--um, didn't he have that to begin with???? I gave it to him and nothing...so I emailed again this evening after coming home to no book and asked him to send another in its place if I don't receive it by Saturday. Am I jumping the gun?

I know I'm a skeptic by nature, but I stopped using Ebay for this very reason, along with that everything I purchased arrived broken or not as described.

Hey, KY Girl!

My solution for shoe coloration is to purchase spray on stuff from the shoe repair shop--different shops carry different brands. I wear white nurse shoes at work, and they are always white and shiny with the spray on color--current brand is Nu-Kote. I prep the shoes by washing with dishwashing soap and water(think the strength you would use to do dishes) then going over with alcohol(think 70 cent a bottle from pharmacy and old flannel cloth) I mask off anything that is not to be white, then put on gloves, since my hands don't need to be white. Basically, this spray can be purchased in any color and is designed fro leather shoes.

Hope this helps brighten your toes!

If you don't get a response from a seller, they will get put on probation or be shut down, if you file a dispute. I love ebay. I have run across a few bad sellers, but it's no big deal, if it is something I don't need in a hurry. Between DH and I we have over 800 feedback. A lot of the time when something goes wrong, It ends up better for me. I had a seller who sent two different sizes of shoes for baby. for $7 more she sent the other two shoes, so I got an extra 30.00 pair in a bigger size. A few times, when I bought clothing that had a less than perfect description, I got a discount. It is important to pick a seller with great feedback. Now when you leave negative feedback, the seller cannot retaliate. If you need a return, and it is the sellers fault, you can request that the seller pay shipping.

I dont like buying on Ebay either Jonnie simply because when something is stated to be old that is what I expect, then when it comes and is not I have the cost of shipping back plus trying to get my money back so I had much rather see what I am buying

Thanks again for the info about media post. I just always use priority for whatever, so I don't think of the other options. It's sad, because Ebay is such a huge market for so many wonderful things, but I would say, 8 out of 10 transactions have been a poor showing--and I never leave negative feedback. I usally chalk it up to being naive on my part. The first was my wedding shoes--I had a pair of black satin Kenneth Cole heels that I loved (comfy, feminine, perfect in all ways) and wanted to see if I could find another pair. I ran across a WHITE pair of the exact same shoe, in my size (5) which is SO difficult to come by. The price was right ($35.00--I paid $120.00 for the black pair) and so I bid and won. The seller seemed so nice, and was so helpful, I never would have thought that there was an issue...when the shoes arrived, one was white and perfect, and the other was....tan, or taupe. Definitely NOT white. So, after looking at them for 2 days trying to make sure I wasn't crazy or color blind, I took them to a shoe repair shop that resoles and mends all my shoes and he said it was "sunburned"...that it was a display shoe in a store window and that the exposure to the light colored the glue and made the satin change into a darker color. There was no way to bleach the shoe, or brighten it. So, I was stuck. When I emailed the seller to ask why they didn't mention it in their description, I never got a response. I tried to dispute it, but it's difficult to dispute something when the other person won't even give you a response. So, I chalked it up to a lesson and moved on. Since then, things have arrived broken, or not as described, or not at all--and all on folks with 100% feedback ratings.

So, for myself, I just figure, I'd rather hold it in my hand, examine it, see it up close, and then buy it.

I'm glad that others have had good endings....it's always nice when something works for you :)

Media mail can take up to two weeks. I would wonder myself since he doesn't seem to have a clue what month he sold it. At least you have recourse and if it were me I would keep emailing him till he gets it right or you get the book. It sure won't look good for his feedback either. I personally have never had to leave negative feedback but that is what it is there for, to help others decide if they want to use a seller or not. That is a major point for me when I'm buying. I always check the feedback first. You can usually tell if the buyer is being honest by the way they state the issue. Some are of the immature nature and you can tell.

Sounds like he may have sent it Media Mail -- which would not have a tracking number. Also, media mail can take some time (much longer than First Class or Priority). I'm thinking if the auction ended on Aug 8, and he waited for a week to send it, and it takes a week with media mail, it could still show up in your mailbox. And since you paid via PayPal, you will have some help in getting your money refunded, if indeed the book never shows up. Good luck with this. I hate hearing about other peoples' bad Ebay experiences -- I've bought and sold on Ebay for years and have never had a no-show, but I know it does happen. Good luck with this.

I live in Missouri...you want me to go shake him down?...LOL!

Seriously, I've never had a single bad transaction on EBay, selling or buying. I guess I've just been lucky.

Sounds like the guy is incredibly disorganized, to say the least. I would think that if the book never arrives, you would have a good "paper" trail to present to ebay to get your money refunded. I hope it doesn't come to that; hopefully, he'll just figure it out soon.

Did you try finding the book on Abebooks.com or Alibris.com? Those sites tend to be used by professional booksellers rather than amateurs (because their policies make it hard to use productively unless you have a large inventory).

Thanks girls...the book isnt' coming from Poland--that was the only place originally to get it, until I found this man on Ebay. It's coming from Missouri...

I did email him again about a tracking number, but again he responded without it. He also didn't say how it was mailed, whether it was regular usps or something else. If he didn't get it to the post office the day of, that's not a big deal, but my concern is (again) that this time, he said it was "DEFINITELY" shipped May 8th (last time it was Dec. 8th)...I purchased it August 8th. So, it makes me feel like he has no idea who or what we've purchased.

I did use paypal, so he got his funds instantly, and we did received a receipt stating such. I guess I would just like for him to send the darn book.

Do you by any chance use paypal? I find that is a good way to go. You can report to them because they have a buyer gaurantee. I have used ebay for a long time and have only had a couple of problems but have always been able to resolve it with the seller.
I don't buy out of the U.S. Just easier for me is all but my husband does and he has never had any problems. Hope you get this straightened out.

Hi Jonni,
Haven't been able to post on here all summer, but checked in today for the first time in quite a while and saw your post... Sorry to hear about your bad ebay experience. As Nigella already stated, international shipments often take a long amount of time, I too have had some which took a month or more. I'd give it another 2 weeks and if you still haven't received it, I'd contact the seller once more and if you still have no satisfaction, I'd contact ebay and paypal to dispute the transaction. If you did use your credit card through paypal, you also have the added bonus of being able to dispute the charge through your credit card company.
DH and I purchase most items that we need through ebay, and in the past 9 years of using it with over 1000 combined transactions, we have had very few issues which did not get resolved one way or another. I hope this gets resolved and that any future business you decide to do on ebay is problem free!

Where is Elsmere? Anyway I am sorry to hear about your problems. I have been buying and selling on Ebay sine 1999 and have only had a couple of issues in all that time. Hope you get it resolved!

Hi Jonni, I shop on Ebay all the time I'm sorry to hear that you're having so much trouble... I've been lucky and only had a couple of problems.

I'm going to say that I would probably give this guy quite a bit of time on this one especially if it's coming from Poland. Most of the books I buy on Ebay usually take 2 weeks or more to get to me and that's in the states, the other thing is you have to account for business days, if you ordered the book on the 8th and he maybe didn't get to the post office for a day or two you could be looking at a maximum of 8 days but more like maybe 6 of actual shipping days. I had a book take a month once! It was shipped Media Mail which really seems to be really sllloowww! One good thing to do is to look at their feedback, if I start to worry I start reading their feedback, I look for similar compliants. Also, getting a tracking number is always a good thing! Some sellers just send it automatically while others never do..... I'm not sure how things work in Poland maybe it's an extra something you have to try to remember to ask for...?? Anyway, a good thing to do may be to send him the item number to make tracking it for him easier.
I hope this helps and good luck! I would probably expect to give the whole thing about a month! Yipes! If you don't receive it after a month and he never gets back to you could think about openin a dispute. I also know that Russia and Georgia are having some major problems right now and I could imagine that things are pretty out of wack over in that part of the world....
